Tsav | צו | “Command”

Deu 6:4  שׁמע  ישׂראל  יהוה  אלהינו  יהוה  אחד׃

Deu 6:4  “Hear, O Yisra’ĕl: יהוה our Elohim, יהוה is one!

Tzav, Tsav, Zav, Sav, or in Biblical Hebrew Ṣaw (צַו‎ — Hebrew for “command,” the sixth word, and the first distinctive word, in the parashah) is the 25th weekly Torah portion (פָּרָשָׁה‎, parashah) in the annual cycle of Torah reading and the second in the Book of Leviticus. The parashah teaches how the priests performed the sacrifices and describes the ordination of Aaron and his sons. The parashah constitutes Leviticus 6:1–8:36 (6:8–8:36 in the KJV). The parashah is made up of 5,096 Hebrew letters, 1,353 Hebrew words, and 97 verses, and can occupy about 170 lines in a Torah scroll (סֵפֶר תּוֹרָה‎, Sefer Torah). Read it the 24th or 25th Sabbath after Simchat Torah, generally in March or early April.

Torah: Leviticus 6:8 (6:1) – 8:36

1st reading (עליה, aliyah) Vayikra 6:1 – 6:11

Lev 6:1  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,  2  “When any being sins, and committed a trespass against יהוה, and has lied to his neighbour about a deposit, or about a pledge, or about a robbery, or shall extort from his neighbour,  3  or has found what was lost and has lied concerning it, or did swear falsely, so that he sins in regard to any one of all these that a man does,  4  then it shall be, when he sins, and shall be guilty, that he shall return what he took by robbery, or what he has extorted, or the deposit which was deposited with him, or the lost item which he found,  5  or all that about which he swore falsely. He shall repay its total value, add one-fifth more to it, and give it to whom it belongs, on the day of his guilt offering.  6  “Then he brings his guilt offering to יהוה, a ram, a perfect one, from the flock, with your valuation, as a guilt offering, to the priest.  7  “And the priest shall make atonement for him before יהוה, and he shall be forgiven for whatever he did that made him guilty.”  8  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,  9  “Command Aharon and his sons, saying, ‘This is the Torah of the ascending offering: This is the ascending offering, because it is burned on the slaughter-place all night until morning, and the fire of the slaughter-place is kept burning on it.  10  ‘And the priest shall put on his linen garment, and put his linen trousers on his body, and shall take up the ashes of the ascending offering which the fire has consumed on the slaughter-place, and shall put them beside the slaughter-place.  11  ‘And he shall take off his garments, and put on other garments, and shall bring the ashes outside the camp to a clean place.

2nd reading (עליה, aliyah) Vayikra 6:12 – 7:10

Lev 6:12  ‘And the fire on the slaughter-place is kept burning on it, it is not put out. And the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and arrange the ascending offering on it, and shall burn on it the fat of the peace offerings –  13  fire is continually kept burning on the slaughter-place, it is not put out.  14  ‘And this is the Torah of the grain offering: The sons of Aharon shall bring it near before יהוה, in front of the slaughter-place,  15  and shall take from it with his hand from the fine flour of the grain offering, and from its oil, and all the frankincense which is on the grain offering, and shall burn it on the slaughter-place for a sweet fragrance, as its remembrance portion to יהוה.

16  ‘Then Aharon and his sons eat the rest of it. It is eaten with unleavened bread, in the set-apart place. They eat it in the courtyard of the Tent of Appointment.  17  ‘It is not baked with leaven. I have given it to them as their portion of My offerings made by fire, it is most set-apart, like the sin offering and the guilt offering.  18  ‘All the males among the children of Aharon eat it – a law forever in your generations concerning the offerings made by fire to יהוה. All that touches them is to be set-apart.’ ”  19  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,  20  “This is the offering of Aharon and his sons, which they bring near to יהוה, beginning on the day when he is anointed: one-tenth of an ěphah of fine flour as a daily grain offering, half of it in the morning and half of it in the evening.  21  “It is made on a griddle with oil. Bring it in mixed, bring the baked portions of the grain offering near, a sweet fragrance to יהוה.

22  “And the anointed priest from among his sons, who is in his place, prepares it – a law forever to יהוה. All of it has to be burned,  23  and every grain offering for the priest is completely burned, it is not eaten.”  24  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,  25  “Speak to Aharon and to his sons, saying, ‘This is the Torah of the sin offering: In the place where the ascending offering is slain, the sin offering is slain before יהוה, it is most set-apart.  26  ‘The priest who is making atonement eats it, in the set-apart place it is eaten, in the courtyard of the Tent of Appointment.  27  ‘All that touches its flesh is to be set-apart. And when its blood is sprinkled on any garment, you wash that on which it was sprinkled, in a set-apart place.  28  ‘But the earthen vessel in which it is cooked is to be broken. And if it is cooked in a bronze pot, then it is scoured and rinsed in water.  29  ‘Every male among the priests eats it, it is most set-apart.  30  ‘And no sin offering from which any of the blood is brought into the Tent of Appointment, to make atonement in the set-apart place, is eaten, it is burned with fire.

Lev 7:1  ‘And this is the Torah of the guilt offering – it is most set-apart.  2  ‘The guilt offering is slain in the place where they slay the ascending offering, and its blood is sprinkled on the slaughter-place all around.  3  ‘Then he brings from it all its fat: the fat tail and the fat that covers the entrails,  4  and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them by the loins, and the appendage on the liver, which he removes with the kidneys.  5  ‘And the priest shall burn them on the slaughter-place as an offering made by fire to יהוה. It is a guilt offering.  6  ‘Every male among the priests eats it. It is eaten in the set-apart place, it is most set-apart.  7  ‘The guilt offering is like the sin offering, there is one Torah for them both: the priest who makes atonement with it, it is his.  8  ‘And the priest who brings anyone’s ascending offering, the skin of the ascending offering which he has brought is the priest’s, it is his.  9  ‘And every grain offering that is baked in the oven and all that is prepared in the stewing-pot, or on a griddle, is the priest’s who brings it, it is his.  10  ‘And every grain offering mixed with oil, or dry, is for all the sons of Aharon, for all alike.

3rd reading (עליה, aliyah) Vayikra 7:11 – 7:38

Lev 7:11  ‘And this is the Torah of the slaughtering of peace offerings which is brought to יהוה:

12  ‘If he brings it for a thanksgiving, then he shall bring with the slaughtering of thanksgiving unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened thin cakes anointed with oil, or cakes of finely blended flour mixed with oil.  13  ‘Besides the cakes, he brings as his offering leavened bread together with the slaughtering of thanksgiving of his peace offerings.  14  ‘And from it he shall bring one cake from each offering as a contribution to יהוה: to the priest who sprinkles the blood of the peace offerings, it is his.  15  ‘As for the flesh of the slaughtering of his peace offerings for thanksgiving, it is eaten the same day it is offered, he does not leave any of it until morning.  16  ‘And if the slaughtering he brings is a vow or a voluntary offering, it is eaten the same day that he brings his slaughtering, and what is left of it is eaten the next day,  17  but whatever is left of the flesh of the slaughtering on the third day is burned with fire.  18  ‘However, if any of the flesh of the slaughtering of his peace offerings is eaten at all on the third day, it is not accepted. It is not reckoned to him who brings it, it is unclean to him, and the being who eats of it bears his crookedness.  19  ‘And the flesh that touches that which is unclean is not eaten, it is burned with fire. And as for the clean flesh, all who are clean eat of it.  20  ‘But the being who eats the flesh of the slaughtering of peace offerings that belongs to יהוה, while he is unclean, that being shall be cut off from his people.  21  ‘And when a being who touches that which is unclean, of the uncleanness of man, or of the uncleanness of beast, or of any unclean abomination, and shall eat the flesh of the slaughtering of peace offerings that belongs to יהוה, that being shall be cut off from his people.’ ”  22  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,  23  “Speak to the children of Yisra’ěl, saying, ‘Do not eat any fat, of bull or sheep or goat.  24  ‘And the fat of a dead body, and the fat of what is torn, is used for any purpose, but you do not eat it at all.  25  ‘For whoever eats the fat of the beast of which men bring as an offering made by fire to יהוה, even the being who eats it shall be cut off from his people.  26  ‘And do not eat any blood in any of your dwellings, of bird or of beast.  27  ‘Any being who eats any blood, even that being shall be cut off from his people.’ ”  28  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,  29  “Speak to the children of Yisra’ěl, saying, ‘He who brings his slaughtering of peace offerings to יהוה brings his offering to יהוה from the slaughtering of his peace offerings.  30  ‘With his own hands he brings the offerings made by fire to יהוה. He brings the fat with the breast, to be waved as a wave offering before יהוה.

31  ‘And the priest shall burn the fat on the slaughter-place, but the breast shall be Aharon’s and his sons.’  32  ‘And the right thigh you give to the priest as a contribution from the slaughtering of your peace offerings.  33  ‘He among the sons of Aharon, who brings the blood of the peace offerings, and the fat, the right thigh is his for a portion.  34  ‘For the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the contribution I have taken from the children of Yisra’ěl, from the slaughterings of their peace offerings, and I give them to Aharon the priest and to his sons, as a law forever, from the children of Yisra’ěl.’ ”  35  This is the anointed portion for Aharon and the anointed portion for his sons, from the offerings made by fire to יהוה, on the day when Mosheh presented them to serve as priests to יהוה,  36  which יהוה commanded to be given to them by the children of Yisra’ěl, on the day that He anointed them, a law forever throughout their generations.  37  This is the Torah of the ascending offering, of the grain offering, and of the sin offering, and of the guilt offering, and of the ordinations, and of the slaughtering of peace offerings,  38  which יהוה commanded Mosheh on Mount Sinai, on the day when He commanded the children of Yisra’ěl to bring their offerings to יהוה, in the Wilderness of Sinai.

4th reading (עליה, aliyah) Vayikra 8:1 – 8:13

Lev 8:1  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,  2  “Take Aharon and his sons with him, and the garments, and the anointing oil, and the bull of the sin offering, and the two rams, and the basket of unleavened bread,  3  and assemble all the congregation at the door of the Tent of Appointment.”  4  And Mosheh did as יהוה commanded him, and the congregation was assembled at the door of the Tent of Appointment.  5  And Mosheh said to the congregation, “This is the word יהוה commanded to be done.”  6  So Mosheh brought Aharon and his sons and washed them with water,  7  and put the long shirt on him, and girded him with the girdle, and dressed him in the robe, and put the shoulder garment on him, and girded him with the embroidered band of the shoulder garment, and with it tied the shoulder garment on him,  8  and put the breastplate on him, and put the Urim and the Tummim in the breastplate,  9  and put the turban on his head. And on the turban, on its front, he put the golden plate, the set-apart sign of dedication, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.  10  And Mosheh took the anointing oil and anointed the Dwelling Place and all that was in it, and set them apart.  11  And he sprinkled some of it on the slaughter-place seven times, and anointed the slaughter-place and all its utensils, and the basin and its base, to set them apart.  12  And he poured some of the anointing oil on Aharon’s head and anointed him, to set him apart.  13  And Mosheh brought the sons of Aharon and put long shirts on them, and girded them with girdles, and put turbans on them, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.

5th reading (עליה, aliyah) Vayikra 8:14 – 8:21

Lev 8:14  And he brought the bull for the sin offering, and Aharon and his sons laid their hands on the head of the bull for the sin offering,  15  and it was slain. And Mosheh took the blood, and put some on the horns of the slaughter-place all around with his finger, and cleansed the slaughter-place. And he poured the blood at the base of the slaughter-place, and set it apart, to make atonement for it.  16  And he took all the fat that was on the entrails, and the appendage on the liver, and the two kidneys with their fat, and Mosheh burned them on the slaughter-place.  17  And the bull, and its skin, and its flesh, and its dung, he burned with fire outside the camp, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.  18  And he brought the ram of the ascending offering, and Aharon and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram,  19  and it was slain. And Mosheh sprinkled the blood on the slaughter-place all around,  20  and he cut the ram into pieces. And Mosheh burned the head, and the pieces, and the fat,  21  and he washed the entrails and the legs in water. And Mosheh burned the entire ram on the slaughter-place. It was an ascending offering for a sweet fragrance, and an offering made by fire to יהוה, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.

6th reading (עליה, aliyah) Vayikra 8:22 – 8:29

Lev 8:22  And he brought the second ram, the ram of ordination, and Aharon and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram,  23  and it was slain. And Mosheh took some of its blood and put it on the tip of Aharon’s right ear, and on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot.  24  And he brought near the sons of Aharon, and Mosheh put some of the blood on the tips of their right ears, and on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet. And Mosheh sprinkled the blood on the slaughter-place all around,  25  and took the fat and the fat tail, and all the fat that was on the entrails, and the appendage on the liver, and the two kidneys and their fat, and the right thigh,  26  and from the basket of unleavened bread that was before יהוה he took one unleavened cake, and a cake of bread anointed with oil, and one thin cake, and put them on the fat and on the right thigh,  27  and placed all these in the hands of Aharon and in the hands of his sons, and waved them as a wave offering before יהוה.

28  Mosheh then took them from their hands and burned them on the slaughter-place, on the ascending offering. They were ordinations for a sweet fragrance. It was an offering by fire to יהוה.

29  And Mosheh took the breast and waved it, a wave offering before יהוה. It was Mosheh’s portion of the ram of ordination, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.

7th reading (עליה, aliyah) Vayikra 8:30 – 8:36

Lev 8:30  And Mosheh took some of the anointing oil and some of the blood which was on the slaughter-place, and sprinkled it on Aharon, on his garments, and on his sons, and on the garments of his sons with him. And he set apart Aharon, his garments, and his sons, and the garments of his sons with him. 31  And Mosheh said to Aharon and his sons, “Cook the flesh at the door of the Tent of Appointment, and eat it there with the bread that is in the basket of the ordinations, as I have commanded, saying, ‘Aharon and his sons are to eat it.’  32  “Then burn the rest of the flesh and the bread with fire.  33  “And do not go outside the door of the Tent of Appointment for seven days, until the days of your ordination are completed – for he fills your hands for seven days.  34  “יהוה has commanded to do, as he has done this day, to make atonement for you.  35  “And stay at the door of the Tent of Appointment day and night for seven days. And you shall guard the duty of יהוה, and not die, for so I have been commanded.”  36  And Aharon and his sons did all the words that יהוה had commanded by the hand of Mosheh.

Prophets: Jeremiah 7:21 – 8:3

Jer 7:21  Thus said יהוה of hosts, the Elohim of Yisra’ěl, “Add your ascending offerings to your slaughterings and eat meat.  22  “For I did not speak to your fathers, or command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Mitsrayim, about matters of ascending offerings or slaughterings.  23  “But this word I did command them, saying, ‘Obey My voice,a and I shall be your Elohim, and you be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, so that it be well with you.’ Footnote: aSee also Gen_26:5, Exo_19:5, Joh_3:36, Rom_6:16, Heb_4:11, Heb_5:9 and Rev_22:14.  24  “But they did not obey or incline their ear, but walked in the counsels, in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward and not forward.  25  “From the day that your fathers came out of the land of Mitsrayim until this day, I have even sent to you all My servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them.  26  “But they did not obey Me or incline their ear, but stiffened their neck. They did evil, more than their fathers.  27  “And you shall speak all these words to them, though they do not listen to you. And you shall also call to them, though they do not answer you.  28  “But you shall say to them, ‘This is a nation that did not obey the voice of יהוה their Elohim, nor did they accept instruction. Truth has perished and has been cut off from their mouth.  29  Cut off your hair and throw it away, and take up a lamentation on the bare heights, for יהוה has rejected and forsaken the generation of His wrath.’  30  “For the children of Yehuḏah have done what is evil in My eyes,” declares יהוה. “They have set their abominations in the house which is called by My Name, to defile it.  31  “And they have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, which I did not command, nor did it come into My heart.  32  “Therefore see, the days are coming,” declares יהוה, “when it shall no longer be called Topheth, or the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter, for they shall bury in Topheth until no room is left.  33  “And the corpses of this people shall be food for the birds of the heavens and for the beasts of the earth, with none to frighten them away.  34  “And in the cities of Yehuḏah and in the streets of Yerushalayim I shall make to cease the voice of rejoicing and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride. For the land shall become a waste!

Jer 8:1  “At that time,” declares יהוה, “they shall bring the bones of the sovereigns of Yehuḏah, and the bones of its heads, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Yerushalayim, out of their burial-sites,  2  and shall spread them before the sun and the moon and all the host of the heavens, which they have loved and which they have served and after which they have walked, which they have sought, and to which they have bowed themselves. They shall not be gathered nor buried, they shall be for dung on the face of the earth.  3  “And death shall be preferred to life by all the rest of those who remain of this evil people, who remain in all the places where I have driven them,” declares יהוה of hosts.

Jeremiah 9:23 – 26

Jer 9:23  Thus said יהוה, “Let not the wise boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty boast in his might, nor let the rich boast in his riches,  24  but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am יהוה, doing loving-commitment, right-ruling, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” declares יהוה.

25  “See, the days are coming,” declares יהוה, “when I shall punish all circumcised with the uncircumcised –  26  “Mitsrayim, and Yehuḏah, and Eḏom, and the children of Ammon, and Mo’aḇ, and all those trimmed on the edges, who dwell in the wilderness. For all the nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Yisra’ěl are uncircumcised in heart!”

Malachi 3:4 – 4:6 (3:24)

Mal 3:1  “See, I am sending My messenger, and he shall prepare the way before Me. Then suddenly the Master you are seeking comes to His Hěḵal, even the Messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight. See, He is coming,” said יהוה of hosts.  2  “And who is able to bear the day of His coming, and who is able to stand when He appears? For He is like the fire of a refiner, and like the soap of a launderer.  3  “And He shall sit as a refiner and a cleanser of silver. And He shall cleanse the sons of Lěwi, and refine them as gold and silver, and they shall belong to יהוה, bringing near an offering in righteousness.  4  “Then shall the offering of Yehuḏah and Yerushalayim be pleasant to יהוה, as in the days of old, as in former years.  5  “And I shall draw near to you for right-ruling. And I shall be a swift witness against the practisers of witchcraft, and against adulterers, and against them that swear to falsehood, and against those who oppress the wage earner in his wages and widows and the fatherless, and those who turn away a sojourner and do not fear Me,” said יהוה of hosts.  6  “For I am יהוה, I shall not change,a and you, O sons of Ya‛aqoḇ, shall not come to an end. Footnote: a Jas_1:17.  7  “From the days of your fathers you have turned aside from My laws and did not guard them. Turn back to Me, and I shall turn back to you,” said יהוה of hosts. “But you said, ‘In what shall we turn back?’  8  “Would a man rob Elohim? Yet you are robbing Me! But you said, ‘In what have we robbed You?’ In the tithe and the offering!  9  “You have cursed Me with a curse, for you are robbing Me, this nation, all of it!  10  “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, and let there be food in My house. And please prove Me in this,” said יהוה of hosts, “whether I do not open for you the windows of the heavens, and shall pour out for you boundless blessing!  11  “And I shall rebuke the devourer for you, so that it does not destroy the fruit of your ground, nor does the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,” said יהוה of hosts.  12  “And all nations shall call you blessed, for you shall be a land of delight,” said יהוה of hosts.  13  “Your words have been strong against Me,” said יהוה, “but you have said, ‘What have we spoken against You?’  14  “You have said, ‘It is worthless to serve Elohim. And what did we gain when we guarded His Charge, and when we walked as mourners before יהוה of hosts?  15  And now we are calling the proud blessed – not only are the doers of wrongness built up, but they also try Elohim and escape.’ ”  16  Then shall those who fear יהוה speak to one another, and יהוה listens and hears, and a book of remembrance be written before Him, of those who fear יהוה, and those who think upon His Name.  17  “And they shall be Mine,” said יהוה of hosts, “on the day that I prepare a treasured possession. And I shall spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.  18  “Then you shall again see the difference between the righteous and the wrong, between one who serves Elohim and one who does not serve Him.

Mal 4:1  “For look, the day shall come, burning like a furnace, and all the proud, and every wrongdoer shall be stubble. And the day that shall come shall burn them up,” said יהוה of hosts, “which leaves to them neither root nor branch.  2  “But to you who fear My Name the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings. And you shall go out and leap for joy like calves from the stall.  3  “And you shall trample the wrongdoers, for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day that I do this,” said יהוה of hosts.  4  “Remember the Torah of Mosheh, My servant, which I commanded him in Ḥorěḇ for all Yisra’ěl – laws and right-rulings.  5  “See, I am sending you Ěliyah the prophet before the coming of the great and awesome day of יהוה.

6  “And he shall turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with utter destruction.”a Footnote: aSee also Zec_14:13.

Brit Hadasha: Mark 7:31 – 8:38

Mar 7:31  And again, going out from the borders of Tsor and Tsiḏon, He came to the Sea of Galil, through the midst of the borders of Dekapolis.  32  And they brought to Him one who was deaf and spoke with difficulty, and they begged Him to lay His hand upon him.  33  And taking him away from the crowd, He put His fingers in his ears, and having spit, He touched his tongue.  m34  And looking up to the heaven, He sighed, and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.”  35  And immediately his ears were opened, and the binding of his tongue was loosed, and he was speaking plainly.  36  And He ordered them, that they should say it to no one, but the more He ordered them, the more they published it.  37  And they were immeasurably astonished, saying, “He has done all well. He makes even the deaf to hear and the dumb to speak.”

Mar 8:1  In those days, the crowd being very great and not having any to eat, יהושע called His taught ones near and said to them,  2  “I have compassion on the crowd, for they have now been with Me three days and do not have food to eat.  3  “And if I dismiss them unfed to their home, they shall faint on the way, for some of them have come from far.”  4  And His taught ones answered Him, “How shall anyone be able to feed these people with bread here in the desert?”  5  And He asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven.”  6  And He commanded the crowd to sit down on the ground. And taking the seven loaves, giving thanks, He broke them and gave them to His taught ones to set before them. And they set them before the crowd.  7  And they had a few small fishes. And having blessed, He said to set them also before them.  8  And they ate and were satisfied, and they picked up seven large baskets of broken pieces.  9  And those eating were about four thousand, and He dismissed them.  10  And immediately entering into the boat with His taught ones, He came to the parts of Dalmanutha.  11  And the Pharisees came out and began to dispute with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven, trying Him.  12  And sighing deeply in His spirit He said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly, I say to you, no sign shall be given to this generation.”  13  And leaving them, again entering into the boat, He went away to the other side.  14  And they had forgotten to take bread, and they did not have more than one loaf with them in the boat.  15  And He was warning them, saying, “Mind! Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the leaven of Herodes.”  16  And they were reasoning with one another, saying, “Because we have no bread.”  17  And יהושע, being aware of it, said to them, “Why do you reason because you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive nor understand? Is your heart still hardened?  18  “Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? Eze_12:2. And do you not remember?  19  “When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets filled with broken pieces did you pick up?” They said to Him, “Twelve.”  20  “And when I broke the seven for the four thousand, how many large baskets filled with broken pieces did you pick up?” And they said, “Seven.”  21  And He said to them, “How do you not understand?”  22  And He came to Běyth Tsaiḏa, and they brought a blind man to Him, and begged Him to touch him.  23  And taking the blind man by the hand He led him out of the village. And having spit on his eyes, laying hands on him, He asked him, “Do you see at all?”  24  And he looked up and said, “I see men like trees, walking.”  25  Then He placed His hands on his eyes again and made him look up. And he was restored, and saw all clearly.  26  And He sent him away to his home, saying, “Do not go into the village.”  27  And יהושע and His taught ones went out to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way He asked His taught ones, saying to them, “Who do men say I am?”  28  And they said to Him, “Yoḥanan the Immerser, and others, Ěliyahu, but others, one of the prophets.”  29  And He asked them, “And you, who do you say I am?” And Kěpha answering, said to Him, “You are the Messiah.”  30  And He warned them that they should speak to no one about Him.  31  And He began to teach them that the Son of Aḏam has to suffer much, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and after three days to rise again.  32  And He was speaking about this openly. Then Kěpha, taking Him aside, began to rebuke Him.  33  And turning around and seeing His taught ones, He rebuked Kěpha, saying, “Get behind Me, Satan! For your thoughts are not those of Elohim, but those of men.”  34  And calling near the crowd with His taught ones, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his stake, and follow Me.  35  “For whoever desires to save his life shall lose it, but whoever loses his life for the sake of Me and the Good News, he shall save it.  36  “For what shall it profit a man if he gains all the world, and loses his own life?  37  “Or what shall a man give in exchange for his life?  38  “For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinning generation, of him the Son of Aḏam also shall be ashamed when He comes in the esteem of His Father with the set-apart messengers.”

Mark 12:28-34

Mar 12:28  And one of the scribes coming near, hearing them reasoning together, knowing that He had answered them well, asked Him, “Which is the first command of all?”  29  And יהושע answered him, “The first of all the commands is, ‘Hear, O Yisra’ěl, יהוה our Elohim, יהוה is one. Deu_6:4.  30  ‘And you shall love יהוה your Elohim with all your heart, and with all your being, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ Deu_6:5. This is the first command.  31  “And the second, like it, is this, ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ Lev_19:18. There is no other command greater than these.”  32  And the scribe said to Him, “Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth, for there is one Elohim, and there is no other besides Him. Deu_4:35.  33  “And to love Him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the being, and with all the strength, Deu_6:5 and to love one’s neighbour as oneself, is more than all the ascending offerings and offerings.”  34  And when יהושע saw that he answered wisely, He said to him, “You are not far from the reign of Elohim.” And after that no one was bold enough to question Him.

Romans 12:1-3

Rom 12:1  I call upon you, therefore, brothers, through the compassion of Elohim, to present your bodies a living offering – set-apart, well-pleasing to Elohim – your reasonable worship.  2  And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you prove what is that good and well-pleasing and perfect desire of Elohim.  3  For I say, through the favour which has been given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he should think, but to think soberly, as Elohim has given to each a measure of belief.

Vayikra, VaYikra, Va-yikra, or Vayyiqra (וַיִּקְרָא‎ — Hebrew for “and He called,” the first word in the parashah) is the 24th weekly Torah portion (פָּרָשָׁה‎, parashah) in the annual cycle of Torah reading and the first in the Book of Leviticus. The parashah lays out the laws of sacrifices (קָרְבָּנוֹת‎, korbanot). It constitutes Leviticus 1:1–5:26 (1:1–6:7 in the King James Version). The parashah has the most letters and words of any of the weekly Torah portions in the Book of Leviticus (although not the most verses), and is made up of 6,222 Hebrew letters, 1,673 Hebrew words, and 111 verses, and can occupy about 215 lines in a Torah scroll (סֵפֶר תּוֹרָה‎, Sefer Torah). (Parashah Emor has the most verses of any Torah portion in Leviticus.) This Portion is read the 23rd or 24th Sabbath after Simchat Torah, generally in March or early April.

1st reading (עליה, aliyah) Vayikra 1:1 – 1:13

Lev 1:1  And יהוה called to Mosheh, and spoke to him from the Tent of Appointment, saying,  2  “Speak to the children of Yisra’ěl, and say to them, ‘When anyone of you brings an offering to יהוה, you bring your offering of the livestock, of the herd or of the flock.  3  ‘If his offering is an ascending offering of the herd, let him bring a male, a perfect one. Let him bring it at the door of the Tent of Appointment, for his acceptance before יהוה.

4  ‘And he shall lay his hand on the head of the ascending offering, and it shall be accepted on his behalf to make atonement for him.  5  ‘And he shall slay the bull before יהוה. And the sons of Aharon, the priests, shall bring the blood and sprinkle the blood all around on the slaughter-place which is at the door of the Tent of Appointment.  6  ‘And he shall skin the ascending offering and cut it into its pieces.  7  ‘And the sons of Aharon the priest shall put fire on the slaughter-place, and lay the wood in order on the fire.  8  ‘And the sons of Aharon, the priests, shall arrange the pieces, with the head and the fat on the wood which is on the fire on the slaughter-place.  9  ‘But its entrails and its legs he washes with water. And the priest shall burn all of it on the slaughter-place as an ascending offering, an offering made by fire, a sweet fragrance to יהוה.

10  ‘And if his offering is from the flock, from the sheep or from the goats as an ascending offering, let him bring a male, a perfect one.  11  ‘And he shall slay it on the north side of the slaughter-place before יהוה. And the sons of Aharon, the priests, shall sprinkle its blood on the slaughter-place all around.  12  ‘And he shall cut it into its pieces, with its head and its fat, and the priest shall arrange them on the wood which is on the fire on the slaughter-place.  13  ‘But the entrails and the legs he washes with water. And the priest shall bring it all and burn it on the slaughter-place. It is an ascending offering, an offering made by fire, a sweet fragrance to יהוה.

2nd reading (עליה, aliyah) Vayikra 1:14 – 2:6

Lev 1:14  ‘And if the ascending offering of his offering to יהוה is of birds, then he shall bring his offering of turtledoves or young pigeons.  15  ‘And the priest shall bring it to the slaughter-place, and shall wring off its head, and burn it on the slaughter-place, and its blood shall be drained out at the side of the slaughter-place.  16  ‘And he shall remove its crop with its feathers and throw it beside the slaughter-place on the east side, into the place for ashes.  17  ‘And he shall split it at its wings, but not sever it. And the priest shall burn it on the slaughter-place, on the wood that is on the fire. It is an ascending offering, an offering made by fire, a sweet fragrance to יהוה.

Lev 2:1  ‘And when anyone brings a grain offering to יהוה, his offering is to be of fine flour. And he shall pour oil on it, and put frankincense on it,  2  and he shall bring it to the sons of Aharon, the priests, and he shall take from it his hand filled with fine flour and oil with all the frankincense. And the priest shall burn it as a remembrance portion on the slaughter-place, an offering made by fire, a sweet fragrance to יהוה.

3  ‘And the rest of the grain offering is for Aharon and his sons, most set-apart of the offerings to יהוה by fire.  4  ‘And when you bring as an offering a grain offering baked in the oven, it is of unleavened cakes of fine flour mixed with oil, or unleavened thin cakes anointed with oil.  5  ‘But if your offering is a grain offering on the griddle, it is of fine flour, unleavened, mixed with oil.  6  ‘Divide it into bits and pour oil on it, it is a grain offering.

3rd reading (עליה, aliyah) Vayikra 2:7 – 2:16

Lev 2:7  ‘And if your offering is a grain offering, in a stewing-pot, it is made of fine flour with oil. 8  ‘And you shall bring to יהוה the grain offering that is made of these, and shall present it to the priest, and he shall bring it to the slaughter-place.  9  ‘And the priest shall take from the grain offering a remembrance portion, and burn it on the slaughter-place, an offering made by fire, a sweet fragrance to יהוה.

10  ‘And the rest of the grain offering is for Aharon and his sons, most set-apart of the offerings to יהוה made by fire.  11  ‘No grain offering which you bring to יהוה is made with leaven, for you do not burn any leaven or any honey in an offering to יהוה made by fire.  12  ‘Bring them to יהוה as an offering of the first-fruits, but they are not burned on the slaughter-place for a sweet fragrance.  13  ‘And season with salt every offering of your grain offering, and do not allow the salt of the covenant of your Elohim to be lacking from your grain offering. With all your offerings you bring salt.  14  ‘And if you bring a grain offering of your first-fruits to יהוה, bring for the grain offering of your first-fruits green heads of grain roasted on the fire, crushed heads of new grain.  15  ‘And you shall put oil on it, and lay frankincense on it. It is a grain offering.  16  ‘And the priest shall burn the remembrance portion, from its crushed grain and from its oil, with all the frankincense, an offering made by fire to יהוה.

Lev 3:1  ‘And if that which he presents is a slaughtering of peace offerings, if he is bringing it of the herd, whether male or female, he brings a perfect one before יהוה.

2  ‘And he shall lay his hand on the head of his offering, and slay it at the door of the Tent of Appointment. And the sons of Aharon, the priests, shall sprinkle the blood on the slaughter-place all around.  3  ‘And from the slaughtering of peace offerings he shall bring a fire offering to יהוה, the fat that covers the entrails and all the fat that is on the entrails,  4  and the two kidneys, and the fat that is on them by the loins, and the appendage on the liver which he removes with the kidneys.  5  ‘And the sons of Aharon shall burn it on the slaughter-place upon the ascending offering, which is on the wood, which is on the fire, as an offering made by fire, a sweet fragrance to יהוה.

6  ‘And if that which he presents is from the flock, for a slaughtering of peace offerings to יהוה, male or female, he brings a perfect one.  7  ‘If he is bringing a lamb as his offering, then he shall bring it before יהוה,

8  and shall lay his hand on the head of his offering, and slay it in front of the Tent of Appointment, and the sons of Aharon shall sprinkle its blood on the slaughter-place round about.  9  ‘And from the slaughtering of peace offerings he shall bring near – as a fire offering to יהוה – its fat, all the fat tail which he removes close to the backbone, and the fat that covers the entrails and all the fat that is on the entrails,  10  and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them by the loins, and the appendage on the liver, which he removes with the kidneys.  11  ‘And the priest shall burn them on the slaughter-place as food, an offering made by fire to יהוה.

12  ‘And if his offering is a goat, then he shall bring it before יהוה,  13  and shall lay his hand on its head and slay it before the Tent of Appointment. All the fat belongs to יהוה.

17  ‘An everlasting law throughout your generations in all your dwellings: you do not eat any fat or any blood.’ ”

5th reading (עליה, aliyah) Vayikra 4:1 – 4:26

Lev 4:1  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,  2  “Speak to the children of Yisra’ěl, saying, ‘When a being sins by mistake against any of the commands of יהוה, which are not to be done, and shall do any of them:  3  ‘If the anointed priest sins, bringing guilt on the people, then he shall bring to יהוה for his sin which he has sinned a young bull, a perfect one, as a sin offering,  4  and he shall bring the bull to the door of the Tent of Appointment before יהוה, and shall lay his hand on the bull’s head, and slay the bull before יהוה.

5  ‘And the anointed priest shall take some of the bull’s blood and bring it to the Tent of Appointment,  6  and the priest shall dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle some of the blood seven times before יהוה, in front of the veil of the set-apart place.  7  ‘And the priest shall put some of the blood on the horns of the slaughter-place of sweet incense before יהוה, which is in the Tent of Appointment, and pour all the blood of the bull at the base of the slaughter-place of the ascending offering, which is at the door of the Tent of Appointment.  8  ‘Then he takes all the fat of the bull as the sin offering, the fat that covers the entrails and all the fat which is on the entrails,  9  and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them by the loins, and the appendage on the liver, which he removes with the kidneys,  10  as it was taken from the bull of the slaughtering of peace offerings. And the priest shall burn them on the slaughter-place of the ascending offering.  11  ‘But the skin of the bull, and all its flesh, with its head and legs, its entrails and dung –  12  all of the bull – he shall bring outside the camp to a clean place, where the ashes are poured out, and burn it on wood with fire. Where the ashes are poured out it is burned.  13  ‘And if the entire congregation of Yisra’ěl strays by mistake, and the matter has been hidden from the eyes of the assembly, and they have done against any of the commands of יהוה, which are not to be done, and shall be guilty,  14  when the sin which they have sinned becomes known, then the assembly shall bring a young bull for the sin, and bring it before the Tent of Appointment.  15  ‘And the elders of the congregation shall lay their hands on the head of the bull before יהוה, and the bull shall be slain before יהוה.

16  ‘And the anointed priest shall bring some of the bull’s blood to the Tent of Appointment,  17  and the priest shall dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle it seven times before יהוה, in front of the veil,  18  and put some of the blood on the horns of the slaughter-place which is before יהוה, which is in the Tent of Appointment, and pour all the blood at the base of the slaughter-place of ascending offering, which is at the door of the Tent of Appointment.  19  ‘Then he takes all the fat from it and shall burn it on the slaughter-place.  20  ‘And he shall do with the bull as he did with the bull as a sin offering – so shall he do it. And the priest shall make atonement for them, and it shall be forgiven them.  21  ‘And he shall bring the bull outside the camp, and burn it as he burned the first bull. It is a sin offering for the assembly.  22  ‘When a ruler sins, and by mistake has done against any of the commands of יהוה his Elohim which are not to be done, and shall be guilty,  23  or if his sin which he has sinned is made known to him, then he shall bring as his offering a buck of the goats, a male, a perfect one.  24  ‘And he shall lay his hand on the head of the goat, and slay it at the place where they slay the ascending offering before יהוה. It is a sin offering.  25  ‘And the priest shall take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger, and shall put it on the horns of the slaughter-place of ascending offering, and pour its blood at the base of the slaughter-place of ascending offering,  26  and burn all its fat on the slaughter-place, like the fat of the slaughtering of the peace offerings. And the priest shall make atonement for him for his sin, and it shall be forgiven him.

6th reading (עליה, aliyah) Vayikra 4:27 – 5:10

27  ‘And if any being of the people of the land sins by mistake by doing against any of the commands of יהוה which are not to be done, and shall be guilty,  28  or if his sin which he has sinned shall be made known to him, then he shall bring as his offering a female goat, a perfect one, for his sin which he has sinned.  29  ‘And he shall lay his hand on the head of the sin offering, and slay the sin offering at the place of the ascending offering.  30  ‘And the priest shall take some of its blood with his finger, and shall put it on the horns of the slaughter-place of ascending offering, and pour all the blood at the base of the slaughter-place,  31  then remove all its fat, as fat is removed from the slaughtering of the peace offerings. And the priest shall burn it on the slaughter-place for a sweet fragrance to יהוה. And the priest shall make atonement for him, and it shall be forgiven him.  32  ‘And if he brings a lamb as his sin offering, he brings a female, a perfect one.  33  ‘And he shall lay his hand on the head of the sin offering, and slay it as a sin offering at the place where they slay the ascending offering.  34  ‘And the priest shall take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger, and shall put it on the horns of the slaughter-place of ascending offering, and pour all the blood at the base of the slaughter-place.  35  ‘Then he removes all its fat, as the fat of the lamb is removed from the slaughtering of the peace offerings. And the priest shall burn it on the slaughter-place, according to the fire offerings to יהוה. So the priest shall make atonement for his sin that he has sinned, and it shall be forgiven him.

Lev 5:1  ‘And when a being sins in that he has heard the voice of swearing, and is a witness, or has seen, or has known, but does not reveal it, he shall bear his crookedness.  2  ‘Or when a being touches any unclean matter, or the carcass of an unclean beast, or the carcass of unclean livestock, or the carcass of unclean creeping creatures, and it has been hidden from him, he is unclean and guilty.  3  ‘Or when he touches uncleanness of man, any of his uncleanness by which he is unclean, and it has been hidden from him, when he shall know it, then he shall be guilty.  4  ‘Or when a being swears, speaking rashly with his lips to do evil or to do good, whatever it is that a man swears rashly with an oath, and it has been hidden from him, when he shall know it, then he shall be guilty of one of these.  5  ‘And it shall be, when he is guilty of one of these, that he shall confess that in which he has sinned,  6  and shall bring his guilt offering to יהוה for his sin which he has sinned, a female from the flock, a lamb or a female goat as a sin offering. And the priest shall make atonement for him, for his sin.  7  ‘And if he is unable to bring a lamb, then he shall bring to יהוה, he who has sinned, two turtledoves or two young pigeons, one for a sin offering and the other for an ascending offering.  8  ‘And he shall bring them to the priest, who shall bring near that which is for the sin offering first, and nib off its head from its neck, but not sever it.  9  ‘And he shall sprinkle some of the blood of the sin offering on the side of the slaughter-place, and the rest of the blood shall be drained out at the base of the slaughter-place. It is a sin offering.  10  ‘And he shall prepare the second as an ascending offering according to the right-ruling, and the priest shall make atonement for him, for his sin which he has sinned, and it shall be forgiven him.

7th reading (עליה, aliyah) Vayikra 5:11 – 6:7

Lev 5:11  ‘But if he is unable to bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons, then he who sinned shall bring for his offering one-tenth of an ěphah of fine flour as a sin offering. He puts no oil on it, nor does he put any frankincense on it, for it is a sin offering.  12  ‘And he shall bring it to the priest, and the priest shall take his hand filled with it as a remembrance portion, and burn it on the slaughter-place according to the offerings made by fire to יהוה. It is a sin offering.  13  ‘And the priest shall make atonement for him, for his sin that he has sinned in any of these, and it shall be forgiven him. And it shall be the priest’s, like a grain offering.’ ”  14  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,  15  “When a being commits a trespass, and has sinned by mistake against the set-apart matters of יהוה, then he shall bring to יהוה as his guilt offering a ram, a perfect one, from the flock, with your valuation in sheqels of silver according to the sheqel of the set-apart place, as a guilt offering.  16  “And he shall make good for the sin that he has done against that which is set-apart, and shall add one-fifth to it and give it to the priest. And the priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering, and it shall be forgiven him.  17  “And when any being sins, and has done what is not to be done, against any of the commands of יהוה, though he knew it not, yet he shall be guilty and shall bear his crookedness.  18  “Then he shall bring to the priest a ram, a perfect one, from the flock, with your valuation, as a guilt offering. And the priest shall make atonement for his mistake he committed unintentionally, though he did not know it, and it shall be forgiven him –  19  it is a guilt offering, he was truly guilty before יהוה.”

7  “And the priest shall make atonement for him before יהוה, and he shall be forgiven for whatever he did that made him guilty.”

Prophets: 1 Samuel 15:2-34

1Sa 15:2  “Thus said יהוה of hosts, ‘I shall punish Amalěq for what he did to Yisra’ěl, how he set himself against him on the way when he came up from Mitsrayim.  3  Now go, and you shall strike Amalěq and put under the ban all that he has, and you shall not spare them, and put to death from man to woman, from infant to nursing child, from ox to sheep, from camel to donkey.’ ”  4  Then Sha’ul summoned the people and mustered them in Tela’im, two hundred thousand foot soldiers and ten thousand men of Yehuḏah.  5  And Sha’ul came to a city of Amalěq, and lay in wait in the wadi.  6  And Sha’ul said to the Qěynites, “Go, turn aside, come down from among the Amalěqites, lest I destroy you with them. For you did show loving-commitment to all the children of Yisra’ěl when they came up out of Mitsrayim.” So the Qěynites turned aside from the midst of the Amalěqites.  7  And Sha’ul struck the Amalěqites, from Ḥawilah all the way to Shur, which is before Mitsrayim.  8  And he caught Aḡaḡ sovereign of the Amalěqites alive, and put under the ban all the people with the edge of the sword.  9  But Sha’ul and the people spared Aḡaḡ and the best of the sheep, and the cattle, and the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not put them under the ban. But all goods despised and worthless, that they put under the ban.  10  And the word of יהוה came to Shemu’ěl, saying,  11  “I am grieved that I have set up Sha’ul as sovereign, for he has turned back from following Me, and has not performed My words.” And it displeased Shemu’ěl, and he cried to יהוה all night.  12  And Shemu’ěl rose early in the morning to meet Sha’ul, and it was told to Shemu’ěl, saying, “Sha’ul went to Karmel, and see, he set up a monument for himself, then turned and passed over, and went down to Gilgal.”  13  And Shemu’ěl came to Sha’ul, and Sha’ul said to him, “Blessed are you of יהוה! I have performed the word of יהוה.”

1Sa 15:14  But Shemu’ěl said, “What then is this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the cattle which I hear?”  15  And Sha’ul said, “They have brought them from Amalěq, because the people spared the best of the sheep and the cattle, to slaughter to יהוה your Elohim. And the rest we have put under the ban.”  16  And Shemu’ěl said to Sha’ul, “Wait, and let me declare to you what יהוה said to me last night.” And he said to him, “Speak.”  17  And Shemu’ěl said, “Though you were little in your own eyes, were you not head of the tribes of Yisra’ěl? And did not יהוה anoint you sovereign over Yisra’ěl?  18  “And יהוה sent you on the way, and said, ‘Go, and you shall put under the ban the sinners, the Amalěqites, and fight against them until they are consumed.’  19  “And why did you not obey the voice of יהוה, but swooped down on the spoil, and did evil in the eyes of יהוה?”

20  And Sha’ul said to Shemu’ěl, “I did obey the voice of יהוה, and I went on the way on which יהוה sent me, and brought back Aḡaḡ sovereign of Amalěq, and I put Amalěq under the ban.  21  “But the people took of the spoil, of the sheep and cattle, the best of that which should have been put under the ban, to slaughter to יהוה your Elohim in Gilgal.”  22  Then Shemu’ěl said, “Does יהוה delight in ascending offerings and slaughterings, as in obeying the voice of יהוה? Look, to obey is better than a slaughtering, to heed is better than the fat of rams.  23  “For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and stubbornness is as wickedness and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of יהוה, He also does reject you as sovereign.”  24  And Sha’ul said to Shemu’ěl, “I have sinned, for I have transgressed the mouth of יהוה and your words, because I feared the people and listened to their voice.  25  “And now, please pardon my sin, and return with me, and let me bow myself to יהוה.”

26  But Shemu’ěl said to Sha’ul, “I do not return with you, for you have rejected the word of יהוה, and יהוה does reject you from being sovereign over Yisra’ěl.”  27  And as Shemu’ěl turned around to go away, Sha’ul took hold of the edge of his robe, and it tore.  28  And Shemu’ěl said to him, “יהוה has torn the reign of Yisra’ěl from you today, and has given it to a neighbour of yours, better than you.  29  “Moreover, the Eminence of Yisra’ěl does not lie nor relent. For He is not a man, that He should relent.”  30  Then he said, “I have sinned. But esteem me now, please, before the elders of my people and before Yisra’ěl, and return with me, and I shall bow myself to יהוה your Elohim.”  31  And Shemu’ěl turned back after Sha’ul, and Sha’ul bowed himself to יהוה.

32  And Shemu’ěl said, “Bring Aḡaḡ sovereign of the Amalěqites here to me.” So Aḡaḡ came to him delightedly, and Aḡaḡ said, “Truly, the bitterness of death has turned aside.”  33  And Shemu’ěl said, “As your sword bereaved women, let your mother be bereaved among women too.” Shemu’ěl then hewed Aḡaḡ to pieces before יהוה in Gilgal.  34  And Shemu’ěl went to Ramah, while Sha’ul went up to his house at Giḇ‛ah of Sha’ul.

Isaiah 43:21 – 44:23

Isa 43:21  this people I have formed for Myself, let them relate My praise.  22  “But you have not called on Me, O Ya‛aqoḇ, for you have been weary of Me, O Yisra’ěl.  23  “You have not brought Me the sheep for your ascending offerings, nor have you esteemed Me with your slaughterings. I have not caused you to serve with grain offerings, nor wearied you with incense.  24  “You have not bought Me sweet cane with silver, nor have you satisfied Me with the fat of your slaughterings. You have only burdened Me with your sins, you have wearied Me with your crookednesses.  25  “I, I am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake, and remember your sins no more. 26  “Remind Me, let us enter into judgment, together; relate, that you might be declared right.  27  “Your first father sinned, and your interpreters have transgressed against Me.  28  “So I have profaned the chief ones of the set-apart place, and I have delivered up Ya‛aqoḇ to the curse, and Yisra’ěl to scorn.

Isa 44:1  “But now hear, O Ya‛aqoḇ My servant, and Yisra’ěl whom I have chosen.  2  Thus said יהוה who made you and formed you from the womb, who helps you, ‘Do not fear, O Ya‛aqoḇ My servant, and Yeshurun,a whom I have chosen. Footnote: aA poetical title for Yisra’ěl, meaning the Straight One or the Upright One. This poetical title is also found in Deu_32:15, Deu_33:5 and Deu_33:26.  3  For I pour water on the thirsty, and floods on the dry ground. I pour My Spirit on your seed, and My blessing on your offspring,  4  and they shall spring up among the grass like willows by streams of water.’  5  “One says, ‘I belong to יהוה; another calls himself by the name of Ya‛aqoḇ; another writes with his hand, ‘Unto יהוה,’ and names himself by the name of Yisra’ěl.  6  “Thus said יהוה, Sovereign of Yisra’ěl, and his Redeemer, יהוה of hosts, ‘I am the First and I am the Last, besides Me there is no Elohim.  7  And who is like Me? Let him call and declare it, and lay it before Me, since I appointed the everlasting people. And the events that are coming and those that do come, let them declare these to them.  8  Do not fear, nor be afraid. Have I not since made you hear, and declared it? You are My witnesses. Is there an Eloah besides Me? There is no other Rock, I know not one.’ ”  9  Those who make an idol, all of them are emptiness, and their delights do not profit. And they are their own witnesses; they neither see nor know, so that they are put to shame.  10  Who would form a mighty one or cast an idol that is of no value?  11  See, all his companions are ashamed, and the workmen, they are but men. Let them all be gathered together, let them stand up, let them fear, let them be put to shame, altogether.  12  The craftsman in iron with the tools works one in the coals, and fashions it with hammers, and works it with the strength of his arms. Even so, he shall be hungry, and has no strength; he drinks no water and is weary.  13  The carpenter stretches out his rule, he outlines it with chalk; he fashions it with a plane, and he outlines it with the compass, and makes it like the figure of a man, according to the comeliness of a man, to remain in the house.  14  He cuts down cedars for himself, and takes cypress and oak, which he raised among the trees of the forest. He has planted a pine, and the rain nourishes it.  15  And it shall be for a man to burn, for he takes some of it and warms himself. He also kindles it and shall bake bread. He also makes a mighty one and bows himself to it – has made it a carved image and falls down before it.  16  Half of it he shall burn in the fire; with this half he eats meat. He roasts a roast, and is satisfied. He also warms himself and says, “Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire.”  17  And the rest of it he makes into a mighty one, his carved image. He falls down before it and worships, prays to it and says, “Deliver me, for you are my mighty one.”  18  They do not know nor understand, for He has smeared their eyes from seeing, and their hearts from understanding.  19  And no one recalls it to his heart, nor is there knowledge nor understanding to say, “I have burned half of it in the fire, and I have also baked bread on its coals; I have roasted meat and eaten it. And shall I make the rest of it an abomination? Should I fall down before a log of wood?”  20  Feeding on ashes, a deceived heart turns him aside, and he does not deliver his being, nor says, “Is there not a lie in my right hand?”  21  “Remember these matters, O Ya‛aqoḇ, and Yisra’ěl, for you are My servant! I have formed you, you are My servant, O Yisra’ěl, do not forget Me!  22  “I shall wipe out your transgressions like a cloud, and your sins like a mist. Return to Me, for I shall redeem you.”  23  Sing, O heavens, for יהוה shall do it! Shout, O depths of the earth! Break forth into singing, O mountains, forest, and every tree in it! For יהוה shall redeem Ya‛aqoḇ, and make Himself clear in Yisra’ěl.

Brit Hadasha: Mark 7:1-30

Mar 7:1  And the Pharisees and some of the scribes assembled to Him, having come from Yerushalayim.  2  And seeing some of His taught ones eat bread with defiled, that is, with unwashed hands, they found fault.  3  For the Pharisees, and all the Yehuḏim, do not eat unless they wash their hands thoroughly, holding fast the tradition of the elders,  4  and coming from the market-place, they do not eat unless they wash. And there are many other traditions which they have received and hold fast – the washing of cups and utensils and copper vessels and couches.  5  Then the Pharisees and scribes asked Him, “Why do Your taught ones not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?”  6  And He answering, said to them, “Well did Yeshayahu prophesy concerning you hypocrites, as it has been written, ‘This people respect Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.  7  And in vain do they worship Me, teaching as teachings the commands of men.’a Isa_29:13. Footnote: aAlso see 2Ki_17:19 and Mat_15:3-9.  8  “Forsaking the command of Elohim, you hold fast the tradition of men.”  9  And He said to them, “Well do you set aside the command of Elohim, in order to guard your tradition.  10  “For Mosheh said, ‘Respect your father and your mother,’ Exo_20:12, Deu_5:16 and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’ Exo_21:17, Lev_20:9. 11  “But you say, ‘If a man says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me, is Qorban (that is, a gift),” ’  12  you no longer let him do any matter at all for his father or his mother,  13  nullifying the Word of Elohim through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such traditions you do.”  14  And calling the crowd to Him, He said to them, “Hear Me, everyone, and understand:  15  “There is no matter that enters a man from outside which is able to defile him, but it is what comes out of him that defiles the man.  16  “If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!”  17  And when He went from the crowd into a house, His taught ones asked Him concerning the parable.  18  And He said to them, “Are you also without understanding? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside is unable to defile him,  19  because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purging all the foods?”b Footnote: bSee footnote Mat_15:20.  20  And He said, “What comes out of a man, that defiles a man.  21  “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil reasonings, adulteries, whorings, murders,  22  thefts, greedy desires, wickednesses, deceit, indecency, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness.  23  “All these wicked matters come from within and defile a man.”  24  And rising up from there He went to the borders of Tsor and Tsiḏon. And entering into a house He wished no one to know it, but it was impossible to be hidden.  25  For a woman whose young daughter had an unclean spirit heard about Him, and she came and fell at His feet.  26  Now the woman was a Greek, a Syro-Phoenician by birth, and she kept asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter.  27  And יהושע said to her, “Let the children be satisfied first, for it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.”c Footnote: cAlso see Mat_15:27.  28  But she answering, said to Him, “Yes, Master, for even the little dogs under the table eat from the children’s crumbs.”  29  And He said to her, “Because of this word go, the demon has gone out of your daughter.”  30  And having come into her house, she found the demon gone out, and her daughter lying on the bed.

Romans 8:1-13

Rom 8:1  There is, then, now no condemnation to those who are in Messiah יהושע, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.  2  For the torah of the Spirit of the life in Messiah יהושע has set me free from the torah of sin and of death.  3  For the Torah being powerless, in that it was weak through the flesh, Elohim, having sent His own Son in the likeness of flesh of sin, and concerning sin, condemned sin in the flesh,  4  so that the righteousness of the Torah should be completed in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.  5  For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the matters of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the matters of the Spirit. 6  For the mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace.  7  Because the mind of the flesh is enmity towards Elohim, for it does not subject itself to the Torah of Elohim, neither indeed is it able,  8  and those who are in the flesh are unable to please Elohim.  9  But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of Elohim dwells in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Messiah, this one is not His.  10  And if Messiah is in you, the body is truly dead on account of sin, but the Spirit is life on account of righteousness.  11  And if the Spirit of Him who raised יהושע from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Messiah from the dead shall also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit dwelling in you. 12  So then, brothers, we are not debtors to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.  13  For if you live according to the flesh, you are going to die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you shall live.

Hebrews 10:1-18

Heb 10:1  For the Torah, having a shadow of the good matters to come, and not the image itself of the matters, was never able to make perfect those who draw near with the same slaughter offerings which they offer continually year by year.  2  Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered? Because those who served, once cleansed, would have had no more consciousness of sins.  3  But in those offerings is a reminder of sins year by year.  4  For it is impossible for blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.  5  Therefore, coming into the world, He says, “Slaughtering and meal offering You did not desire, but a body You have prepared for Me.  6  “In ascending offerings and offerings for sin You did not delight.  7  “Then I said, ‘See, I come – in the roll of the book it has been written concerning Me – to do Your desire, O Elohim.’ ” Psa_40:6-8.  8  Saying above, “Slaughter and meal offering, and ascending offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor delighted in,” Psa_40:6 which are offered according to the Torah,  9  then He said, “See, I come to do Your desire, O Elohim.” Psa_40:8 He takes away the first to establish the second.  10  By that desire we have been set apart through the offering of the body of יהושע Messiah once for all.  11  And indeed every priest stands day by day doing service, and repeatedly offering the same slaughter offerings which are never able to take away sins.  12  But He, having offered one slaughter offering for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of Elohim,  13  waiting from that time onward until His enemies are made a footstool for His feet. Psa_110:1.  14  For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are being set apart.  15  And the Set-apart Spirit also witnesses to us, for after having said before,  16  “This is the covenant that I shall make with them after those days, says יהוה, giving My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I shall write them,”a Jer_31:33. Footnote: aSee also Heb_8:8-12.  17  and, “Their sins and their lawlessnesses I shall remember no more.” Jer_31:34.  18  Now where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer a slaughter offering for sin.

Hebrews 13:10-16

Heb 13:10  We have a slaughter-place from which those serving the Tent have no authority to eat.  11  For the bodies of those beasts whose blood is brought into the Set-apart Place by the high priest for sin, are burned outside the camp.  12  And so יהושע also suffered outside the gate, to set apart the people with His own blood.  13  Let us, then, go to Him outside the camp, bearing His reproach.  14  For we have no lasting city here, but we seek the one coming.  15  Through Him then, let us continually offer up a slaughter offering of praise to Elohim, that is, the fruitc of our lips, giving thanks to His Name. Footnote: cOr “bulls of our lips” – See Hos_14:2.  16  And do not forget to do good and to share, for with such slaughter offerings Elohim is well pleased.

Aharonic Blessing

Num 6:22  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying, 23  “Speak to Aharon and his sons, saying, ‘This is how you bless the children of Yisra’ĕl. Say to them: 24  “יהוה bless you and guard you; 25  יהוה make His face shine upon you, and show favour to you; 26  יהוה lift up His face upon you, and give you peace.” ’ 27  “Thus they shall put My Name on the children of Yisra’ĕl, and I Myself shall bless them.”

Pekudei, Pekude, Pekudey, P’kude, or P’qude (פְקוּדֵי — Hebrew for “amounts of,” the second word, and the first distinctive word, in the parashah) is the 23rd weekly Torah portion (פָּרָשָׁה, parashah) in the annual cycle of Torah reading. It is the 11th and last in the Book of Exodus. The parashah tells of the setting up of the Tabernacle.

It constitutes Exodus 38:21–40:38. The parashah is made up of 4,432 Hebrew letters, 1,182 Hebrew words, 92 verses, and 159 lines in a Torah scroll (סֵפֶר תּוֹרָה, Sefer Torah). Read the 22nd or 23rd Sabbath after Simchat Torah, in March. The lunisolar Hebrew calendar contains up to 55 weeks, the exact number varying between 50 in common years and 54 or 55 in leap years. In leap years (for example, 2019, 2022, 2024, and 2027), parashah Pekudei is read separately. In common years (for example, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2023, and 2026), parashah Pekudei is combined with the previous parashah, Vayakhel, to help achieve the needed number of weekly readings (although in some non-leap years, such as 2025, they are not combined).

The Tabernacle in Exodus 39–40 echoes the story of creation in Genesis 1:1–2:3. As the creation story unfolded in seven days, the instructions about the Tabernacle unfolded in seven speeches. In both creation and Tabernacle accounts, the text notes the completion of the task. In both creation and Tabernacle, the work done is seen to be good. In both creation and Tabernacle, when the work is finished, Yahovah takes an action in acknowledgement. In both creation and Tabernacle, when the work is finished, a blessing is invoked. And in both creation and Tabernacle, God declares something “holy.”

Torah: Exodus 38:21 – 40:38
1st reading (עליה, aliyah)  Shemot 38:21 – 39:1

Exo 38:21  These were the appointments of the Dwelling Place, the Dwelling Place of the Witness, which was appointed by the mouth of Mosheh, for the service of the Lěwites, by the hand of Ithamar, son of Aharon the priest.  22  And Betsal’ěl son of Uri, son of Ḥur, of the tribe of Yehuḏah, made all that יהוה had commanded Mosheh.  23  And with him: Oholiaḇ son of Aḥisamaḵ, of the tribe of Dan, an engraver and designer, an embroiderer in blue and purple and scarlet material, and in fine linen.  24  All the gold prepared for the work, in all the work of the set-apart place – and it was the gold of the wave offering – came to be twenty-nine talents and seven hundred and thirty sheqels, according to the sheqel of the set-apart place.  25  And the silver from the ones counted of the congregation was one hundred talents and one thousand seven hundred and seventy-five sheqels, according to the sheqel of the set-apart place:  26  a beqa, half a sheqel for a head, according to the sheqel of the set-apart place, for everyone passing over to those counted, from twenty years old and above, for six hundred and three thousand, five hundred and fifty men.  27  And the hundred talents of silver were for casting the sockets of the set-apart place and the bases of the veil: one hundred sockets from the hundred talents, a talent for each socket.  28  And of the one thousand seven hundred and seventy-five sheqels he made hooks for the columns, and overlaid their tops, and made bands for them.  29  And the bronze of the wave offering was seventy talents and two thousand four hundred sheqels.  30  And with it he made the sockets for the door of the Tent of Appointment, and the bronze slaughter-place, and the bronze grating for it, and all the utensils for the slaughter-place,  31  and the sockets for the courtyard all around, and the bases for the courtyard gate, and all the pegs for the Dwelling Place, and all the pegs for the courtyard all around.  39:1  And of the blue and purple and scarlet material they made woven garments, to do service in the set-apart place. And they made the set-apart garments which were for Aharon, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.

2nd reading (עליה, aliyah)  Shemot 39:2 – 39:21

Exo 39:2  And he made the shoulder garment of gold, of blue and purple and scarlet material, and of fine woven linen.  3  And they beat out sheets of gold and cut it into threads, to work it in with the blue and purple and scarlet material, and the fine linen, the work of a skilled workman.  4  They made shoulder pieces for it to join it, it was joined at its two edges.  5  And the embroidered band of his shoulder garment that was on it was of the same work of gold, and blue and purple and scarlet material, and of fine woven linen, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.  6  And they made the shoham stones, set in plated work of gold, engraved as signets are engraved, according to the names of the sons of Yisra’ěl.  7  And he put them on the shoulders of the shoulder garment, stones of remembrance for the sons of Yisra’ěl, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.  8  And he made the breastplate, a work of a skilled workman, like the work of the shoulder garment, of gold, of blue and purple and scarlet material, and of fine woven linen.  9  It was square, they made the breastplate double, its length a span, its width a span, doubled.  10  And they filled it with four rows of stones: a row of ruby, a topaz, and an emerald was the first row;  11  and the second row a turquoise, a sapphire, and a diamond;  12  and the third row a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst;  13  and the fourth row a beryl, a shoham, and a jasper – set in plated work of gold in their settings.  14  And the stones were according to the names of the sons of Yisra’ěl, twelve according to their names, engraved like a signet, each one with its own name according to the twelve tribes.  15  And they made braided chains of corded work for the breastplate at the ends, of clean gold.  16  And they made two settings of gold and two gold rings, and put the two rings on the two ends of the breastplate.  17  And they put the two cords of gold in the two rings on the ends of the breastplate.  18  And the two ends of the two cords they fastened in the two settings, and put them on the shoulder pieces of the shoulder garment in the front.  19  And they made two rings of gold and put them on the two ends of the breastplate, on the edge of it, which was on the inward side of the shoulder garment.  20  And they made two gold rings and put them on the two shoulder pieces, underneath the shoulder garment, on the front of it, close to its seam above the embroidered band of the shoulder garment.  21  And they bound the breastplate by means of its rings to the rings of the shoulder garment with a blue cord, so that it would be above the embroidered band of the shoulder garment, and that the breastplate would not come loose from the shoulder garment, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.

3rd reading (עליה, aliyah)  Shemot 39:22 – 39:32

Exo 39:22  And he made the robe of the shoulder garment of woven work, all of blue.  23  And the opening of the robe was in the middle, like the opening in a scaled armour, with a woven binding all around the opening, so that it would not tear.  24  And they made on the hem of the robe pomegranates of blue and purple and scarlet material, twined.  25  And they made bells of clean gold, and put the bells between the pomegranates on the hem of the robe all around between the pomegranates:  26  a bell and a pomegranate, a bell and a pomegranate, all around the hem of the robe, for the service, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.  27  And they made the long shirt of fine linen, the work of a weaver, for Aharon and his sons,  28  and a turban of fine linen, and the turban ornaments of fine linen, and short trousers of fine woven linen,  29  and a girdle of fine woven linen with blue and purple and scarlet material, the work of an embroiderer, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.  30  And they made the plate of the set-apart sign of dedication of clean gold, and wrote on it an inscription like the engraving of a signet: SET-APARTNESS TO יהוה.  31  And they put on it a blue cord, to fasten it above on the turban, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.  32  And all the work of the Dwelling Place of the Tent of Appointment was completed. And the children of Yisra’ěl did according to all that יהוה had commanded Mosheh, so they did.

4th reading (עליה, aliyah)  Shemot 39:33 – 39:43

Exo 39:33  And they brought the Dwelling Place to Mosheh, the tent and all its furnishings, its hooks, its boards, its bars, and its columns, and its sockets,  34  and the covering of rams’ skins dyed red, and the covering of fine leather, and the veil of the covering,  35  the ark of the Witness with its poles, and the lid of atonement,  36  the table, and all its utensils, and the showbread,  37  the clean lampstand with its lamps, the lamps to be put in order, and all its utensils, and the oil for light,  38  and the slaughter-place of gold, and the anointing oil, and the sweet incense, and the covering for the Tent door,  39  the bronze slaughter-place and its bronze grating, its poles, and all its utensils, the basin with its stand,  40  the screens of the courtyard, its columns and its sockets, the covering for the courtyard gate, its cords, and its pegs, and all the utensils for the service of the Dwelling Place, for the Tent of Appointment,  41  the woven garments, to do service in the set-apart place: the set-apart garments for Aharon the priest, and his sons’ garments, to serve as priests.  42  According to all that יהוה had commanded Mosheh, so the children of Yisra’ěl did all the work.  43  And Mosheh looked over all the work and saw they did it as יהוה had commanded, so they had done. And Mosheh blessed them.

(2 Chronicles 1:5–6 reports that the bronze altar that Bezalel built, which they brought to Moses in Exodus 39:39, still stood before the Tabernacle in Solomon’s time, and Solomon sacrificed a thousand burnt offerings on it.)

5th reading (עליה, aliyah)  Shemot 40:1 – 40:16

Exo 40:1  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,  2  “On the first day of the first new moon, you are to raise up the Dwelling Place of the Tent of Appointment,  3  and shall put in it the ark of the Witness, and screen the ark with the veil.  4  “And you shall bring in the table and arrange what belongs on it, and bring in the lampstand and light its lamps.  5  “And you shall set the slaughter-place of gold for the incense before the ark of the Witness, and put up the covering of the door to the Dwelling Place.  6  “And you shall set the slaughter-place of the ascending offering before the door of the Dwelling Place of the Tent of Appointment,  7  and shall set the basin between the Tent of Appointment and the slaughter-place, and shall put water therein.  8  “And you shall set up the courtyard all around, and shall place the covering of the courtyard gate,  9  and shall take the anointing oil, and anoint the Dwelling Place and all that is in it, and shall set it and all its utensils apart, and it shall be set-apart.  10  “And you shall anoint the slaughter-place of the ascending offering and all its utensils, and set the slaughter-place apart, and the slaughter-place shall be most set-apart.  11  “And you shall anoint the basin and its stand, and set it apart.  12  “And you shall bring Aharon and his sons to the door of the Tent of Appointment and wash them with water.  13  “And you shall put the set-apart garments on Aharon, and anoint him and set him apart to serve as priest to Me.  14  “And you shall bring his sons and put long shirts on them,  15  and shall anoint them, as you anointed their father, and they shall serve as priests to Me. And their anointing shall be for them an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations.”  16  And Mosheh did according to all that יהוה had commanded him, so he did.

6th reading (עליה, aliyah)  Shemot 40:17 – 40:27

Exo 40:17  And it came to be in the first new moon of the second year, on the first day of the new moon, that the Dwelling Place was raised up.  18  And Mosheh raised up the Dwelling Place and placed its sockets, and set up its boards, and put in its bars, and raised up its columns,  19  and spread the tent over the Dwelling Place and put the covering of the tent on top of it, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.  20  And he took the Witness and put it into the ark, and he put the poles through the rings of the ark, and put the lid of atonement on top of the ark,  21  and brought the ark into the Dwelling Place, and placed the veil of the covering to screen off the ark of the Witness, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.  22  And he put the table in the Tent of Appointment, on the north side of the Dwelling Place, outside the veil,  23  and set the bread in order upon it before יהוה, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.  24  And he put the lampstand in the Tent of Appointment, opposite the table, on the south side of the Dwelling Place,  25  and lit the lamps before יהוה, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.  26  And he put the gold slaughter-place in the Tent of Appointment in front of the veil,  27  and burned sweet incense on it, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.

7th reading (עליה, aliyah)  Shemot 40:28 – 40:38

Exo 40:28  And he set up the covering to the door of the Dwelling Place.  29  And he put the slaughter-place of ascending offering before the door of the Dwelling Place of the Tent of Appointment, and offered upon it the ascending offering and the grain offering, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.  30  And he put the basin between the Tent of Appointment and the slaughter-place, and put water therein for washing.  31  And Mosheh, and Aharon, and his sons washed their hands and their feet with water from it,  32  as they went into the Tent of Appointment, and as they came near the slaughter-place. They would wash, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.  33  And he raised up the courtyard all around the Dwelling Place and the slaughter-place, and placed the covering of the courtyard gate. And Mosheh completed the work.  34  And the cloud covered the Tent of Appointment, and the esteem of יהוה filled the Dwelling Place.  35  And Mosheh was not able to come into the Tent of Appointment, because the cloud dwelt on it, and the esteem of יהוה filled the Dwelling Place.  36  And when the cloud was taken up from above the Dwelling Place, the children of Yisra’ěl went onward in all their journeys.  37  But if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not set out till the day that it was taken up.  38  For the cloud of יהוה was on the Dwelling Place by day, and fire was on it by night, before the eyes of all the house of Yisra’ěl, in all their journeys.

Prophets: 1 Kings 8:1-21

1Ki 8:1  Then Shelomoh assembled the elders of Yisra’ěl and all the heads of the tribes, the chief fathers of the children of Yisra’ěl, to Sovereign Shelomoh in Yerushalayim, to bring up the ark of the covenant of יהוה from the City of Dawiḏ, which is Tsiyon.  2  And all the men of Yisra’ěl assembled to Sovereign Shelomoh at the festival in the month of Ěythanim, which is the seventh new moon.  3  And all the elders of Yisra’ěl came, and the priests took up the ark,  4  and brought up the ark of יהוה, and the Tent of Appointment, and all the set-apart utensils that were in the Tent. And the priests and the Lěwites brought them up,  5  and Sovereign Shelomoh, and all the congregation of Yisra’ěl who had assembled with him, were with him before the ark, slaughtering so many sheep and cattle, that they could not be counted or numbered.  6  And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of יהוה to its place, into the Speaking Place of the House, to the Most Set-apart Place, under the wings of the keruḇim,  7  for the keruḇim spread two wings over the place of the ark, and the keruḇim covered over the ark and its poles.  8  And the poles extended so that the ends of the poles were seen from the set-apart place, in front of the Speaking Place, but they were not seen from outside. And they are there to this day.  9  There was naught in the ark, only the two tablets of stone which Mosheh put there at Ḥorěḇ, where יהוה made a covenant with the children of Yisra’ěl, when they came out of the land of Mitsrayim.

10  And it came to be, when the priests came out of the Set-apart Place, that the cloud filled the House of יהוה,

11  so that the priests were unable to stand and perform the service because of the cloud, for the esteem of יהוה filled the House of יהוה.

12  And Shelomoh said, “יהוה has said He would dwell in the dark cloud.  13  I have indeed built You an exalted house, an established place for You to dwell in forever.”  14  And the sovereign turned around and blessed all the assembly of Yisra’ěl, while all the assembly of Yisra’ěl was standing.  15  And he said, “Blessed be יהוה Elohim of Yisra’ěl, who spoke with His mouth to my father Dawiḏ, and with His hand has filled it, saying,  16  Since the day I brought My people Yisra’ěl out of Mitsrayim, I have chosen no city from any tribe of Yisra’ěl in which to build a house for My Name to be there, but I chose Dawiḏ to be over My people Yisra’ěl.’  17  “And it was in the heart of my father Dawiḏ to build a house for the Name of יהוה Elohim of Yisra’ěl.  18  “But יהוה said to my father Dawiḏ, ‘Because it has been in your heart to build a house for My Name, you did well that it was in your heart.  19  Only, you do not build the house, but your son, who is coming from your loins, he does build the house for My Name.’  20  “Now יהוה has established His word which He spoke, and I have been raised up instead of my father Dawiḏ, and sit on the throne of Yisra’ěl, as יהוה promised, and built a house for the Name of יהוה Elohim of Yisra’ěl,  21  and have appointed there a place for the ark, wherein is the covenant of יהוה which He made with our fathers, when He brought them out of the land of Mitsrayim.”

Brit Hadasha: John 6:1-71

Joh 6:1  After this יהושע went away to the other side of the Sea of Galil, that is Lake Kinnereth.  2  And a large crowd was following Him, because they saw His signs which He did on those who were sick.  3  And יהושע went up on a mountain, and there He sat down with His taught ones.  4  And the Pěsaḥ was near, the festival of the Yehuḏim.  5  Then יהושע, lifting up His eyes and seeing a large crowd coming toward Him, said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for them to eat?”  6  And this He said, trying him, for He Himself knew what He would do.  7  Philip answered Him, “Two hundred denariia worth of bread is not sufficient for them, for every one of them to receive a little.” Footnote: aRoman monetary unit.  8  One of His taught ones, Andri, the brother of Shim‛on Kěpha, said to Him,  9  “Here is a boy who has five barley loaves and two fishes, but what are these for so many?”  10  And יהושע said, “Make the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place, and the men, numbering about five thousand, sat down.  11  And יהושע took the loaves, and having given thanks He distributed them to the taught ones, and the taught ones to those sitting down. And the same with the fish, as much as they wished.  12  And when they were filled, He said to His taught ones, “Gather the broken pieces that are left over, so that none gets wasted.”  13  So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces of the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten.  14  Then the men, having seen the sign that יהושע did, said, “This is truly the Prophet who is coming to the world.”  15  Then יהושע, knowing that they were about to come and seize Him, that they might make Him sovereign, withdrew again to the mountain, alone by Himself.  16  And when evening came, His taught ones went down to the sea,  17  and entering into the boat, they were going over the sea toward Kephar Naḥum. And it had already become dark, and יהושע had not yet come to them.  18  And the sea was rising because a great wind was blowing.  19  When they had rowed about twenty-five or thirty stadiab, they saw יהושע walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were afraid. Footnote: bApprox. 5 to 6 kilometres or 3 to 4 miles.  20  And He said to them, “It is I, do not be afraid.”  21  They wished therefore to take Him into the boat, and at once the boat was at the land where they were going.  22  On the next day, the crowd that was standing on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there except that one into which His taught ones had entered, and that יהושע had not entered the boat with His taught ones, but His taught ones went away alone –  23  but other boats came from Kinnereth, near the place where they ate bread after the Master had given thanks –  24  therefore when the crowd saw that יהושע was not there, nor His taught ones, they themselves also entered into the boats and came to Kephar Naḥum, seeking יהושע.  25  And having found Him on the other side of the sea, they asked Him, “Rabbi, when did You come here?”  26  יהושע answered them and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were satisfied.  27  “Do not labour for the food that is perishing, but for the food that is remaining to everlasting life, which the Son of Aḏam shall give you,c for the Father, Elohim, has set His seal on Him.” Footnote: cSee Joh_6:35, Joh_6:48, Joh_6:51, Joh_6:58 and Mat_4:4.  28  So they said to Him, “What should we do to work the works of Elohim?”  29  יהושע answered and said to them, “This is the work of Elohim, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”  30  So they said to Him, “What sign then would You do, so that we see and believe You? What would You do?  31  “Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, as it has been written, ‘He gave them bread out of the heaven to eat.’ ” Psa_78:24, Psa_105:40, Neh_9:15.  32  Therefore יהושע said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, Mosheh did not give you the bread out of the heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread out of the heaven.  33  “For the bread of Elohim is He who comes down out of the heaven and gives life to the world.”  34  So they said to Him, “Master, give us this bread always.”  35  And יהושע said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall not get hungry at all, and he who believes in Me shall not get thirsty at all.  36  “But I said to you that you have seen Me, and still do not believe.  37  “All that the Father gives Me shall come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I shall by no means cast out.  38  “Because I have come down out of the heaven, not to do My own desire, but the desire of Him who sent Me.  39  “This is the desire of the Father who sent Me, that all He has given Me I should not lose of it, but should raise it in the last day.  40  “And this is the desire of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him should possess everlasting life. And I shall raise him up in the last day.”  41  Therefore the Yehuḏim were grumbling against Him, because He said, “I am the bread which came down out of the heaven.”  42  And they said, “Is not this יהושע, the son of Yosěph, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that He says, ‘I have come down out of the heaven’?”  43  Then יהושע answered and said to them, “Do not grumble with one another.  44  “No one is able to come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him. And I shall raise him up in the last day.  45  “It has been written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught by יהוה.’ Isa_54:13, Jer_31:34. Everyone, then, who has heard from the Father, and learned, comes to Me.  46  “Not that anyone has seen the Father, except He who is from Elohim – He has seen the Father.  47  “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me possesses everlasting life.  48  “I am the bread of life.  49  “Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness and they died.  50  “This is the bread which comes down out of the heaven, so that anyone might eat of it, and not die.  51  “I am the living bread which came down out of the heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he shall live forever. And indeed, the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”  52  The Yehuḏim, therefore, were striving with one another, saying, “How is this One able to give us His flesh to eat?”  53  יהושע therefore said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Aḏam and drink His blood, you possess no life in yourselves.  54  “He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood possesses everlasting life, and I shall raise him up in the last day.  55  “For My flesh is truly food, and My blood is truly drink.  56  “He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood stays in Me, and I in him.  57  “As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me shall live because of Me.  58  “This is the bread which came down out of the heaven, not as your fathers ate the manna and died. He who eats this bread shall live forever.”  59  He said this in a congregation, teaching in Kephar Naḥum.  60  Therefore many of His taught ones having heard, said, “This word is hard, who is able to hear it?”  61  But יהושע knowing within Himself that His taught ones were grumbling about this, said to them, “Does this make you stumble?  62  “What if you see the Son of Aḏam going up where He was before?  63  “It is the Spirit that gives life, the flesh does not profit at all. The words that I speak to you are Spirit and are life.d Footnote: dSee Joh_6:68 and 1Co_15:45.  64  “But there are some of you who do not believe.” For יהושע knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would deliver Him up.  65  And He said, “Because of this I have said to you that no one is able to come to Me unless it has been given to him by My Father.”  66  From then on many of His taught ones withdrew and were not walking with Him any more.  67  יהושע therefore said to the twelve, “Do you also wish to go away?”  68  Then Shim‛on Kěpha answered Him, “Master, to whom shall we go? You possess words of everlasting life.  69  “And we have believed, and we know that You are the Messiah, the Son of the living Elohim.”  70  יהושע answered them, “Have I not chosen you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?”  71  He was now speaking of Yehuḏah from Qerioth, the son of Shim‛on, for he, one of the twelve, was about to deliver Him up.

2 Corinthians 3:7-18

2Co 3:7  But if the administering of death in letters, engraved on stones, was esteemed, so that the children of Yisra’ěl were unable to look steadily at the face of Mosheh because of the esteem of his face, which was passing away,  8  how much more esteemed shall the administering of the Spirit not be?  9  For if the administering of condemnation had esteem, the administering of righteousness exceeds much more in esteem.  10  For indeed what was made esteemed had no esteem in this respect, in view of the esteem that excels.  11  For if that which is passing away was esteemed, much more that which remains in esteem.  12  Having then such expectation, we use much boldness of speech,  13  and not like Mosheh, who put a veil over his facea so that the children of Yisra’ěl should not look steadily at the end of what was passing away. Footnote: aSee Exo_34:33-35.  14  But their minds were hardened, for to this day, when the old covenant is being read, that same veil remains, not lifted, because in Messiah it is taken away.  15  But to this day, when Mosheh is being read, a veil lies on their heart.  16  And when one turns to the Master, the veil is taken away. Exo_34:34.  17  Now יהוה is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of יהוה is, there is freedom.  18  And we all, as with unveiled face we see as in a mirror the esteem of יהוה, are being transformed into the same likeness from esteem to esteem, as from יהוה, the Spirit.b Footnote: bSee also 2Co_3:17-18.

Revelation 15:5-8

Rev 15:5  And after this I looked and saw the Dwelling Place of the Tent of Witness in the heaven was opened.  6  And out of the Dwelling Place came the seven messengers having the seven plagues, dressed in clean bright linen, and having their chests girded with golden bands.  7  And one of the four living creatures gave to the seven messengers seven golden bowls filled with the wrath of Elohim who lives forever and ever.  8  And the Dwelling Place was filled with smoke from the esteem of Elohim and from His power, and no one was able to enter the Dwelling Place until the seven plagues of the seven messengers were ended.

Vayakhel, Wayyaqhel, VaYakhel, Va-Yakhel, Vayak’hel, Vayak’heil, or Vayaqhel (וַיַּקְהֵל‎ — Hebrew for “and he assembled,” the first word in the parashah) is the 22nd weekly Torah portion (פָּרָשָׁה‎, parashah) in the annual cycle of Torah reading and the 10th in the Book of Exodus. The parashah tells of the making of the Tabernacle and its sacred vessels. It constitutes Exodus 35:1–38:20. The parashah is made up of 6,181 Hebrew letters, 1,558 Hebrew words, and 122 verses, and can occupy about 211 lines in a Torah scroll (סֵפֶר תּוֹרָה‎, Sefer Torah).

Read the 22nd Sabbath after Simchat Torah, generally in March or rarely in late February. The lunisolar Hebrew calendar contains up to 55 weeks, the exact number varying between 50 in common years and 54 or 55 in leap years. In leap years (for example, 2019, 2022, 2024, and 2027), parashah Vayakhel is read separately. In common years (for example, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2023, and 2026), parashah Vayakhel is usually combined with the next parashah, Pekudei, to help achieve the number of weekly readings needed (although in some non-leap years, such as 2025, they are not combined).

Torah: Exodus 35:1 – 38:20

1st reading (עליה, aliyah)  Shemot 35:1 – 35:20

Exo 35:1  And Mosheh assembled all the congregation of the children of Yisra’ěl, and said to them, “These are the Words which יהוה has commanded you to do:  2  “Work is done for six days, but on the seventh day it shall be set-apart to you, a Sabbath of rest to יהוה. Anyone doing work on it is put to death.  3  “Do not kindle a fire in any of your dwellings on the Sabbath day.”  4  And Mosheh spoke to all the congregation of the children of Yisra’ěl, saying, “This is the word which יהוה commanded, saying,  5  ‘Take from among you a contribution to יהוה. Everyone whose heart so moves him, let him bring it as a contribution to יהוה: gold, and silver, and bronze,  6  and blue, and purple, and scarlet material, and fine linen, and goats’ hair,  7  and ram skins dyed red, and fine leather, and acacia wood,  8  and oil for the light, and spices for the anointing oil and for the sweet incense,  9  and shoham stones, and stones to be set in the shoulder garment and in the breastplate.  10  ‘And let all the wise-hearted among you come and make all that יהוה has commanded:  11  the Dwelling Place, its tent and its covering, its hooks and its boards, its bars, its columns, and its sockets,  12  the ark and its poles, the lid of atonement and the veil of the covering,  13  the table and its poles, and all its utensils, and the showbread,  14  and the lampstand for the light, and its utensils, and its lamps, and the oil for the light,  15  and the incense slaughter-place, and its poles, and the anointing oil, and the sweet incense, and the covering for the door at the entrance of the Dwelling Place,  16  the slaughter-place of ascending offering with its bronze grating, its poles, and all its utensils, the basin and its stand,  17  the screens of the courtyard, its columns, and their sockets, and the covering for the gate of the courtyard,  18  the pegs of the Dwelling Place, and the pegs of the courtyard, and their cords,  19  the woven garments to do service in the set-apart place, the set-apart garments for Aharon the priest and the garments of his sons to serve as priests.’ ”  20  And all the congregation of the children of Yisra’ěl withdrew from the presence of Mosheh.

2nd reading (עליה, aliyah)  Shemot 35:21 – 35:29

Exo 35:21  And everyone whose heart lifted him up and everyone whose spirit moved him came, and they brought the contribution to יהוה for the work of the Tent of Appointment, and for all its service, and for the set-apart garments.  22  And they came, both men and women, all whose hearts moved them, and brought earrings and nose rings, and rings and necklaces, all golden goods, even every one who made a wave offering of gold to יהוה.

23  And every man, with whom was found blue and purple and scarlet material, and fine linen, and goats’ hair, and rams’ skins dyed red, and fine leather, brought them.  24  Everyone who would make a contribution to יהוה of silver or bronze, brought it. And everyone with whom was found acacia wood for any work of the service, brought it.  25  And all the wise-hearted women spun yarn with their hands, and brought what they had spun, the blue and the purple, the scarlet material, and the fine linen.  26  And all the women whose hearts lifted them up in wisdom spun the goats’ hair.  27  And the rulers brought shoham stones, and the stones to be set in the shoulder garment and in the breastplate,  28  and the spices and the oil for the light, and for the anointing oil, and for the sweet incense.  29  The children of Yisra’ěl brought a voluntary offering to יהוה, all the men and women whose hearts moved them to bring all kinds of work which יהוה, by the hand of Mosheh, had commanded to be done.

3rd reading (עליה, aliyah)  Shemot 35:30 – 36:7

Exo 35:30  And Mosheh said to the children of Yisra’ěl, “See, יהוה has called by name Betsal’ěl son of Uri, son of Ḥur, of the tribe of Yehuḏah,  31  and He has filled him with the Spirit of Elohim, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all work,  32  to make designs, to work in gold and in silver and in bronze,  33  and in cutting of stones for setting, and in carving wood, and to work in all workmanship of design.  34  “And He has put in his heart the ability to teach, in him and Oholiaḇ son of Aḥisamaḵ, of the tribe of Dan.  35  “He has filled them with skill to do all work of the engraver and the designer and embroiderer, in blue and in purple, in scarlet material, and in fine linen, and a weaver, doing any work, and makers of designs.

Exo 36:1  “And Betsal’ěl and Oholiaḇ, and every wise-hearted man in whom יהוה has given wisdom and understanding, to know how to do all work for the service of the set-apart place, shall do according to all that יהוה has commanded.”  2  And Mosheh called Betsal’ěl and Oholiaḇ, and every wise-hearted man in whose heart יהוה had given wisdom, everyone whose heart lifted him up, to come and do the work.  3  And they received from Mosheh all the contribution which the children of Yisra’ěl had brought for the work of the service of making the set-apart place. But they still brought to him voluntary offerings every morning,  4  so all the craftsmen who were doing all the work of the set-apart place came, each from the work he was doing,  5  and they spoke to Mosheh, saying, “The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work which יהוה commanded us to do.”  6  Then Mosheh commanded and they sent this word throughout the camp, saying, “Let neither man nor woman do any more work for the contribution of the set-apart place.” And the people were withheld from bringing,  7  for what they had was enough for all the work to be done, more than enough.

4th reading (עליה, aliyah)  Shemot 36:8 – 36:19

Exo 36:8  Then all the wise-hearted ones among them who worked on the Dwelling Place made ten curtains woven of fine linen and blue and purple and scarlet material. They made them with keruḇim, the work of a skilled workman.  9  The length of each curtain was twenty-eight cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits, all the curtains having one measure.  10  And he joined five curtains, one to another; and the other five curtains he joined, one to another.  11  And he made loops of blue on the edge of the end curtain of one set, the same he did on the edge of the end curtain of the other set.  12  Fifty loops he made on one curtain, and fifty loops he made on the edge of the end curtain of the second set; the loops held one curtain to another.  13  And he made fifty hooks of gold, and joined the curtains to each other with the hooks, and the Dwelling Place became one.  14  And he made curtains of goats’ hair for the tent over the Dwelling Place, he made eleven curtains.  15  The length of each curtain was thirty cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits, the eleven curtains having one measure.  16  And he joined five curtains by themselves and six curtains by themselves.  17  And he made fifty loops on the edge of the end curtain in one set, and fifty loops he made on the edge of the curtain of the second set.  18  And he made fifty bronze hooks to join the tent, to be one.  19  And he made a covering for the tent of rams’ skins, dyed red, and a covering of fine leather above that.

5th reading (עליה, aliyah)  Shemot 36:20 – 37:16

Exo 36:20  And for the Dwelling Place he made boards of acacia wood, standing up.  21  The length of each board was ten cubits, and the width of each board a cubit and a half.  22  Each board had two tenons for binding one to another. So he did to all the boards of the Dwelling Place.  23  And he made boards for the Dwelling Place, twenty boards for the south side.  24  And he made forty sockets of silver to go under the twenty boards, and two sockets under each of the boards for its two tenons.  25  And for the other side of the Dwelling Place, for the north side, he made twenty boards,  26  and their forty sockets of silver, two sockets under the one board, and two sockets under the other board.  27  And he made six boards for the west side of the Dwelling Place.  28  And he made two boards for the two back corners of the Dwelling Place.  29  And they were double beneath, and similarly they were complete to the top by one ring. So he did to both of them for the two corners.  30  And there were eight boards, and their silver sockets, sixteen sockets, two sockets under each of the boards.  31  And he made bars of acacia wood, five for the boards on one side of the Dwelling Place,  32  and five bars for the boards on the other side of the Dwelling Place, and five bars for the boards of the Dwelling Place at the rear, westward.  33  And he made the middle bar to pass through the boards from one end to the other.  34  And he overlaid the boards with gold, and their rings he made of gold to be holders for the bars, and overlaid the bars with gold.  35  And he made a veil of blue and purple and scarlet material, and fine worked linen. It was made with keruḇim, the work of a skilled workman.  36  And he made four columns of acacia wood for it, and overlaid them with gold, with their hooks of gold. And he cast four sockets of silver for them.  37  And he made a covering for the Tent door of blue and purple and scarlet material and fine woven linen, made by a weaver,  38  and its five columns with their hooks. And he overlaid their tops and their rings with gold, but their five sockets were of bronze.

Exo 37:1  And Betsal’ěl made the ark of acacia wood, two and a half cubits long, and a cubit and a half wide, and a cubit and a half high.  2  And he overlaid it with clean gold inside and outside, and made a moulding of gold all around it.  3  And he cast four rings of gold for it, for its four feet, two rings on its one side, and two rings on its other side.  4  And he made poles of acacia wood, and overlaid them with gold.  5  And he put the poles into the rings at the sides of the ark, to lift the ark.  6  And he made a lid of atonement of clean gold, two and a half cubits long and a cubit and a half wide.  7  And he made two keruḇim of beaten gold. He made them from the two ends of the lid of atonement,  8  one keruḇ at one end on this side, and the other keruḇ at the other end on that side. He made the keruḇim from the lid of atonement, from the two ends.  9  And the keruḇim spread out their wings above, and covered the lid of atonement with their wings, with their faces toward each other, the faces of the keruḇim were turned toward the lid of atonement.  10  And he made the table of acacia wood, two cubits long, and a cubit wide, and a cubit and a half high.  11  And he overlaid it with clean gold, and made a moulding of gold all around it.  12  And he made a rim of a handbreadth all around it, and made a moulding of gold for the rim all around it.  13  And he cast four rings of gold for it, and put the rings on the four corners that were at its four legs.  14  The rings were next to the rim, as holders for the poles to lift the table.  15  And he made the poles of acacia wood to lift the table, and overlaid them with gold.  16  And he made the utensils which were on the table, its dishes, and its cups, and its bowls, and its jars for pouring, of clean gold.

Its horns were of it.  26  And he overlaid it with clean gold, its top and its sides all around, and its horns. And he made a moulding for it of gold all around it.  27  And he made two rings of gold for it under its moulding, at its two corners on both sides, as holders for the poles with which to lift it.  28  And he made the poles of acacia wood, and overlaid them with gold.  29  And he made the set-apart anointing oil and the clean incense of sweet spices, according to the work of the perfumer.

7th reading (עליה, aliyah)  Shemot 38:1 – 38:20

Exo 38:1  And he made the slaughter-place of ascending offering of acacia wood, five cubits long and five cubits wide, square, and three cubits high.  2  And he made its horns on its four corners, the horns were of it. And he overlaid it with bronze.  3  And he made all the utensils for the slaughter-place: the pots, and the shovels, and the basins, and the forks, and the fire holders. He made all its utensils of bronze.  4  And he made a grating for the slaughter-place, a bronze network, under its rim, midway from the bottom.  5  And he cast four rings for the four corners of the bronze grating, as holders for the poles.  6  And he made the poles of acacia wood, and overlaid them with bronze.  7  And he put the poles into the rings on the sides of the slaughter-place, with which to lift it. He made the slaughter-place hollow with boards.  8  And he made the basin of bronze and its stand of bronze, from the bronze mirrors of the serving women who did service at the door of the Tent of Appointment.  9  And he made the courtyard: for the south side the screens of the courtyard were of fine woven linen, one hundred cubits long,  10  their twenty columns and their twenty sockets, of bronze. The hooks of the columns and their bands were of silver.  11  And for the north side the screens were one hundred cubits long, their twenty columns and their twenty sockets, of bronze. The hooks of the columns and their bands were of silver.  12  And for the west side there were screens of fifty cubits, their ten columns and their ten sockets. The hooks of the columns and their bands were of silver.  13  And for the east side eastward, fifty cubits:  14  fifteen cubits of screens on the one side, with their three columns and their three sockets,  15  and fifteen cubits of screens the other side of the courtyard gate, on this side and that side, with their three columns and their three sockets.  16  All the screens of the courtyard all around were of fine woven linen.  17  And the sockets for the columns were of bronze, the hooks of the columns and their bands were of silver, and the overlay of their tops was of silver. And all the columns of the courtyard had bands of silver.  18  And the covering for the gate of the courtyard was the work of an embroiderer, of blue and purple and scarlet material, and of fine woven linen, and twenty cubits long, and the height along its width was five cubits, corresponding to the screens of the courtyard.  19  And the columns were four, and their sockets of bronze four, their hooks were of silver, and the overlay of their tops and their bands was of silver.  20  And all the pegs of the Dwelling Place, and of the courtyard all around, were of bronze.

Prophets: 1 Kings 7:13-51

1Ki 7:13  And Sovereign Shelomoh sent and brought Ḥiram from Tsor.  14  He was the son of a widow from the tribe of Naphtali, and his father was a man of Tsor, a bronze worker. And he was filled with wisdom and understanding and skill in working with all kinds of bronze work. So he came to Sovereign Shelomoh and did all his work.  15  And he cast two columns of bronze, each one eighteen cubits high, and a line of twelve cubits measured the circumference of each.  16  And he made two capitals of cast bronze, to put on the tops of the columns – the height of one capital was five cubits, and the height of the other capital was five cubits –  17  a lattice network, with wreaths of chainwork, for the capitals which were on top of the columns, seven chains for one capital and seven for the other capital.  18  And he made the columns, and two rows of pomegranates above the network all around to cover the capitals that were on top, and so he did for the other capital.  19  And the capitals that were on top of the columns in the hall were in the shape of lilies, four cubits.  20  And there were capitals above also on the two columns, by the bulge which was next to the network. And the pomegranates were two hundred, in rows on each of the capitals all around.  21  And he set up the columns by the porch of the Hěḵal. And he set up the column on the right and called its name Yaḵin, and he set up the column on the left and called its name Bo‛az.  22  And on the top of the columns was lily work. Thus the work of the columns was completed.  23  And he made the Sea of cast metal, ten cubits from one rim to the other, round all about, and five cubits high, and a line of thirty cubits measured around it.  24  And below its rim were ornaments all around, ten to a cubit, all the way around the Sea. The ornaments were cast in two rows when it was cast.  25  It stood on twelve oxen, three facing north, and three facing west, and three facing south, and three facing east. And the Sea was set upon them, and all their back parts were inward.  26  And it was a handbreadth thick, and its rim was shaped like the rim of a cup, like a lily blossom. It held two thousand baths.  27  And he made ten stands of bronze, each stand was four cubits long, and four cubits wide, and three cubits high.  28  And this is how the stands were made: They had side panels, and the side panels were between frames,  29  and on the side panels that were between the frames were lions, oxen, and keruḇim, and a pedestal above on the frame. Below the lions and oxen were wreaths of beaten work.  30  And each stand had four bronze wheels and axles of bronze, and its four feet had supports. Under the basin were cast supports beside each wreath.  31  And its opening inside the crown at the top was one cubit. And the opening was round, like the work of the pedestal, one and a half cubits. And also on the opening were engravings, but the side panels were square, not round.  32  And the four wheels were under the side panels, and the axles of the wheels were joined to the stand, and the height of a wheel was one and a half cubits.  33  And the wheels were made like chariot wheels. Their axle pins, and their rims, and their spokes, and their hubs were all cast.  34  And there were four supports at the four corners of each stand, its supports were of the stand itself.  35  And on the top of the stand, half a cubit in height – round all around. And on the top of the stand, its flanges and its side panels were of the same.  36  And on the plates of its flanges and on its side panels he engraved keruḇim, lions, and palm trees, according to the clear space on each, with wreaths all around.  37  He made the ten stands like this: all of them were of one mould, one measure, and one shape.  38  And he made ten basins of bronze; each basin contained forty baths, and each basin was four cubits, one basin on each of the ten stands.  39  And he put five stands on the right side of the house, and five on the left side of the house, and he put the Sea on the right side of the house to the east, facing the south.  40  And Ḥiram made the pots and the shovels and the bowls. And Ḥiram completed doing all the work that he was to do for Sovereign Shelomoh on the House of יהוה:

41  the two columns, and the bowl-shaped capitals that were on top of the columns, and the two networks covering the two bowl-shaped capitals which were on top of the columns;  42  and the four hundred pomegranates for the two networks, two rows of pomegranates for each network to cover the two bowl-shaped capitals that were on top of the columns;  43  and the ten stands, and the ten basins on the stands;  44  and the one Sea, and twelve oxen under the Sea;  45  and the pots, and the shovels, and the bowls. And all these utensils which Ḥiram made for Sovereign Shelomoh for the House of יהוה were of polished bronze.  46  The sovereign had them cast in clay in the district of Yarděn between Sukkoth and Tsarethan.  47  And Shelomoh left all the utensils unweighed, because they were many, nor was the weight of the bronze searched out.  48  So Shelomoh made all the utensils for the House of יהוה: the slaughter-place of gold, and the table of gold on which was the showbread;  49  and the lampstands of refined gold, five on the right side and five on the left in front of the Speaking Place, with the flowers and the lamps and the snuffers of gold;  50  and the basins, and the snuffers, and the bowls, and the ladles, and the fire holders of refined gold, and the hinges of gold, both for the doors of the inner house, the Most Set-apart Place, and for the doors of the house of the Hěḵal.  51  Thus all the work which Sovereign Shelomoh had done for the House of יהוה was completed. And Shelomoh brought in the set-apart items of his father Dawiḏ: the silver and the gold and the utensils, and he put them in the treasuries of the House of יהוה.

 2 Kings 11:17 – 12:16(17)

2Ki 11:17  And Yehoyaḏa made a covenant between יהוה and the sovereign and the people, to be the people of יהוה – also between the sovereign and the people.  18  And all the people of the land went to the house of Ba‛al, and broke it down. They completely broke up its slaughter-places and images, and killed Mattan the priest of Ba‛al before the slaughter-places. And the priest appointed inspectors over the House of יהוה,

19  and took the commanders of hundreds, and the Karites, and the runners, and all the people of the land. And they brought the sovereign down from the House of יהוה, and went by way of the gate of the runners to the sovereign’s house. And he sat on the throne of the sovereigns.  20  And all the people of the land rejoiced. And the city had rest, for they had slain Athalyahu with the sword in the sovereign’s house.  21  Yeho’ash was seven years old when he began to reign.

2Ki 12:1  Yeho’ash began to reign in the seventh year of Yěhu, and he reigned forty years in Yerushalayim. And his mother’s name was Tsiḇyah of Be’ěrsheḇa.  2  And Yeho’ash did what was right in the eyes of יהוה all the days in which Yehoyaḏa the priest instructed him.  3  However, the high places were not taken away; the people still slaughtered and burned incense on the high places.  4  And Yeho’ash said to the priests, “All the silver of the set-apart gifts that are brought into the House of יהוה, the silver coming over, each man’s assessment silver, all the silver that a man purposes in his heart to bring into the House of יהוה,  5  let the priests take for themselves, each from his friend. And let them strengthen the breaches of the House, wherever there is a breach.”  6  And it came to be, by the twenty-third year of Sovereign Yeho’ash, that the priests had not strengthened the breaches of the House,  7  and Sovereign Yeho’ash called Yehoyaḏa the priest and the other priests, and said to them, “Why have you not strengthened the breaches of the House? And now, do not take any more silver from your friends, but give it for the breaches of the House.”  8  And the priests agreed that they would neither receive any more silver from the people, nor strengthen the breaches of the House.  9  And Yehoyaḏa the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in its lid, and set it beside the slaughter-place, on the right side as one comes into the House of יהוה. And the priests who guarded the door put there all the silver that was brought into the House of יהוה.

10  And it came to be, whenever they saw that there was much silver in the chest, that the sovereign’s scribe and the high priest came up and put it in bags, and counted the silver that was found in the House of יהוה,

11  and gave the silver, weighed out, into the hands of those who did the work, who had the oversight of the House of יהוה. And they paid it out to the carpenters and builders who worked on the House of יהוה,

12  and to stonemasons and stonecutters, and for buying timber and hewn stone to strengthen the breach of the House of יהוה, and for all that was paid out to strengthen the House.

2Ki 12:13  However there were not made for the House of יהוה basins of silver, snuffers, sprinkling-bowls, trumpets, any objects of gold, or objects of silver, from the silver that was brought into the House of יהוה,

14  for they gave that to the workmen, and they strengthened the House of יהוה with it.  15  And they did not reckon with the men into whose hand they gave the silver to be paid to workmen, for they acted trustworthily.  16  The silver from the trespass offerings and the silver from the sin offerings was not brought into the House of יהוה. It belonged to the priests.  17  And Ḥaza’ěl sovereign of Aram went up and fought against Gath, and captured it. And Ḥaza’ěl set his face to go up to Yerushalayim.

Ezekiel 45:16 – 46:18

Eze 45:16  “All the people of the land are to give this contribution to the prince in Yisra’ěl.  17  “And on the prince are the ascending offerings, and the grain offerings, and drink offerings, at the festival, the new moons, the sabbaths – in all the appointed times of the house of Yisra’ěl. He is to prepare the sin offering, and the grain offering, and the ascending offering, and the peace offerings to make atonement for the house of Yisra’ěl.”  18  Thus said the Master יהוה, “In the first month, on the first of the new moon, you are to take a young bull, a perfect one, and shall cleanse the set-apart place.  19  “And the priest shall take some of the blood of the sin offering and put it on the doorposts of the House, on the four corners of the ledge of the slaughter-place, and on the posts of the gate of the inner courtyard.  20  “And do the same on the seventh of the new moon for anyone who makes a mistake or is foolish. And you shall make atonement for the House.  21  “In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the new moon, you have the Pěsaḥ, a festival of seven days, unleavened bread is eaten.  22  “And on that day the prince shall prepare for himself and for all the people of the land a bull for a sin offering.  23  “And during the seven days of the festival he prepares an ascending offering to יהוה, seven bulls and seven rams, perfect ones, daily for seven days, and a male goat daily for a sin offering.  24  “And he prepares a grain offering of one ěphah for each bull and one ěphah for each ram, together with a hin of oil for each ěphah.  25  “In the seventh month, on the fifteenth day of the new moon, at the festival, he prepares like these seven days, as the sin offering, as the ascending offering, as the grain offering, and as the oil.”

Eze 46:1  ‘Thus said the Master יהוה, “The gate of the inner courtyard facing east is shut the six days of work, but on the sabbath it is opened, and on the day of the new moon it is opened.  2  “And the prince shall enter by way of the porch of that gate from the outside, and he shall stand by the post. And the priests shall prepare his ascending offering and his peace offerings. And he shall bow himself at the threshold of the gate, and shall go out, but the gate is not shut until evening.  3  “And the people of the land shall also bow themselves at the entrance to this gate before יהוה, on the sabbaths and on the new moons.  4  “And the ascending offering which the prince brings to יהוה on the sabbath day is six lambs, perfect ones, and a ram, a perfect one.  5  “And the grain offering is one ěphah for a ram, and the grain offering for the lambs, a gift of his hand, and a hin of oil for an ěphah.  6  “And on the day of the new moon: a young bull, a perfect one, six lambs, and a ram, they should be perfect.  7  “And he prepares a grain offering of an ěphah for a bull, and an ěphah for a ram, and for the lambs as his hand attains, and a hin of oil for an ěphah.  8  “And when the prince enters, he comes in by way of the porch of that gate, and goes out the same way.  9  “And when the people of the land enter before יהוה at the appointed times, whoever shall enter by way of the north gate to bow himself, goes out by way of the south gate. And whoever enters by way of the south gate, goes out by way of the north gate, he shall not return by way of the gate through which he came, but goes out through the opposite one.  10  “And the prince is to be in their midst, entering when they enter, and going out when they go out.  11  “And in the festivals and in the appointed times the grain offering is an ěphah for a bull, and an ěphah for a ram, and for lambs the gift of his hand, and a hin of oil for an ěphah.  12  “And when the prince makes a spontaneous ascending offering or spontaneous peace offerings to יהוה, the gate facing east shall be opened for him. And he shall prepare his ascending offering and his peace offerings as he did on the Sabbath day. And he shall go out, and after he goes out the gate shall be shut.  13  “And make a daily ascending offering to יהוה of a lamb a year old, a perfect one, preparing it morning by morning.  14  “And prepare a grain offering with it morning by morning, a sixth of an ěphah, and a third of a hin of oil to moisten the fine flour, a grain offering to יהוה – continual everlasting laws.  15  “And prepare the lamb, and the grain offering, and the oil, morning by morning, a continual ascending offering.”  16  Thus said the Master יהוה, “When the prince gives a gift of some of his inheritance to any of his sons, it belongs to his sons, it is their possession by inheritance.  17  “And when he gives a gift of some of his inheritance to one of his servants, then it shall be his till the year of release, then it shall return to the prince. Only the inheritance of his sons is theirs.  18  “And the prince does not take any of the people’s inheritance by evicting them from their possession. He is to give his sons their inheritance from his own possession, so that none of My people are separated from his possession.” ’ ”

Brit Hadasha: Mark 6:14-29

Mar 6:14  And Sovereign Herodes heard, for His Name had become well-known. And he said, “Yoḥanan the Immerser has been raised from the dead, and because of this these powers are at work in him.”  15  Others said, “He is Ěliyahu.” And others said, “He is a prophet – like one of the prophets.”  16  But when Herodes heard, he said, “This one is Yoḥanan whom I beheaded, he has been raised from the dead!”  17  For Herodes himself had sent and seized Yoḥanan, and bound him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, because he had married her,  18  for Yoḥanan had said to Herodes, “It is not right for you to have your brother’s wife.”  19  So Herodias held a grudge against him and wished to kill him, but was unable,  20  for Herodes feared Yoḥanan, knowing that he was a righteous and set-apart man, and he protected him. And when he heard him, he was much perplexed, yet heard him gladly.  21  And a suitable day came when Herodes on his birthday gave a feast for his great men, and the high officers, and the chief men of Galil.  22  And when the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, and pleased Herodes and those who sat with him, the sovereign said to the girl, “Ask me whatever you wish, and I shall give it to you.”  23  And he swore to her, “Whatever you ask me, I shall give you, up to half of my reign.”  24  And she went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask?” And she said, “The head of Yoḥanan the Immerser!”  25  And coming in immediately with haste to the sovereign she asked, saying, “I wish that you give me at once the head of Yoḥanan the Immerser on a dish.”  26  And the sovereign, becoming deeply grieved, because of the oaths, and because of those who sat with him, did not wish to refuse her.  27  And the sovereign straightaway sent an executioner and commanded his head to be brought. And he went and beheaded him in prison,  28  and brought his head on a dish, and gave it to the girl. And the girl gave it to her mother.  29  And when his taught ones heard of it, they came and took away his dead body and laid it in a tomb.

2 Corinthians 9:1-15

2Co 9:1  Indeed, concerning the service to the set-apart ones, it is unnecessary for me to write to you;  2  for I know your eagerness, about which I boast of you to the Makedonians, that Achaia was ready a year ago. And your ardour has stirred up most of them.  3  But I sent the brothers, lest our boasting on behalf of you should be made empty in this part, in order that, as I said, you were ready,  4  lest if some Makedonians come with me and find you not ready, we – not to speak of you – should be put to shame because of our belief.  5  So I thought it necessary to appeal to the brothers to come to you in advance, and arrange your promised blessing beforehand – this to be ready as a blessing and not as greediness.  6  And this: He who sows sparingly shall also reap sparingly, and he who sows on blessing shall also reap on blessing.  7  Let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not of grief or of necessity, for Elohim loves a joyous giver.  8  And Elohim is able to make all favour overflow toward you, that you, always having all you need in every way, have plenty for every good work.  9  As it has been written, “He scattered abroad, He gave to the poor, His righteousness remains forever.” Psa_112:9.  10  And He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, shall supply and increase the seed you have sown and increase the fruit of your righteousness,  11  being enriched in every way for all simplicity, which works out thanksgiving to Elohim through us.  12  Because the rendering of this service not only supplies the needs of the set-apart ones, but also is overflowing through many thanksgivings to Elohim.  13  Through the proof of this service, they esteem Elohim on the submission of your confession to the Good News of Messiah, and generosity in sharing with them and all men,  14  and by their prayer for you, who long for you because of the exceeding favour of Elohim in you.  15  Thanks also to Elohim for His unspeakable gift!

Hebrews 9:1-14

Heb 9:1  Now the first covenant indeed had regulations of worship and the earthly set-apart place.  2  For a Tent was prepared: the first part, in which was the lampstand, and the table, and the showbread, which is called the Set-apart Place.  3  And after the second veil, the part of the Tent which is called Most Set-apart,  4  to which belonged the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid on all sides with gold, in which were the golden pot that held the manna, and the rod of Aharon that budded, and the tablets of the covenant,  5  and above it the keruḇim of esteem were overshadowing the place of atonement – about which we do not now speak in detail.  6  And these having been prepared like this, the priests always went into the first part of the Tent, accomplishing the services.  7  But into the second part the high priest went alone once a year, not without blood, which he offered for himself and for sins of ignorance of the people,a Footnote: a Num_15:15-28.  8  the Set-apart Spirit signifying this, that the way into the Most Set-apart Place was not yet made manifest while the first Tent has a standing,  9  which was a parable for the present time in which both gifts and slaughters are offered which are unable to perfect the one serving, as to his conscience,  10  only as to foods and drinks, and different washings, and fleshly regulations imposed until a time of setting matters straight.  11  But Messiah, having become a High Priest of the coming good matters, through the greater and more perfect Tent not made with hands, that is, not of this creation,  12  entered into the Most Set-apart Place once for all, not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood, having obtained everlasting redemption.  13  For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the defiled, sets apart for the cleansing of the flesh,  14  how much more shall the blood of the Messiah, who through the everlasting Spirit offered Himself unblemished to Elohim, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living Elohim?

Revelation 11:1-13

Rev 11:1  And a reed like a measuring rod was given to me, and the messenger stood, saying, “Rise and measure the Dwelling Place of Elohim, and the slaughter-place, and those worshipping in it.  2  “But cast out the court which is outside the Dwelling Place, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the nations, and they shall trample the set-apart city under foot for forty-two months.  3  “And I shall give unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clad in sackcloth.”  4  These are the two olive trees Eze_4:3 and the two lampstands that are standing before the Elohim of the earth.  5  And if anyone wishes to harm them, fire comes out from their mouth and consumes their enemies. And if anyone wishes to harm them, he has to be killed in that way.  6  These possess authority to shut the heaven, so that no rain falls in the days of their prophecy. And they possess authority over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they wish.  7  And when they have ended their witness, the beast coming up out of the pit of the deep shall fight against them, and overcome them, and kill them,  8  and their dead bodies lie in the street of the great city which spiritually is called Seḏom and Mitsrayim, where also our Master was impaled,  9  and some of the peoples and tribes and tongues and nations see their dead bodies for three and a half days, and not allow their dead bodies to be placed into tombs,  10  and those dwelling on the earth rejoice over them and exult. And they shall send gifts to each other, because these two prophets tortured those dwelling on the earth.  11  And after the three and a half days a spirit of life from Elohim entered into them, and they stood upon their feet, and great fear fell on those who saw them.  12  And they heard a loud voice from the heaven saying to them, “Come up here.” And they went up into the heaven in a cloud, and their enemies saw them.  13  And in that hour there came to be a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell. And in the earthquake seven thousand men were killed, and the rest became afraid and gave esteem to the Elohim of the heaven.

Deu 6:4  “Hear, O Yisra’ĕl: יהוה our Elohim, יהוה is one!

Ki Tisa, Ki Tissa, Ki Thissa, or Ki Sisa (כִּי תִשָּׂא‎ — Hebrew for “when you take,” the sixth and seventh words, and first distinctive words in the parashah) is the 21st weekly Torah portion (פָּרָשָׁה‎, parashah) in the annual cycle of Torah reading and the ninth in the Book of Exodus. The parashah tells of building the Tabernacle, the incident of the Golden calf, the request of Moses for יהוה to reveal his attributes, and how Moses became radiant.

The parashah constitutes Exodus 30:11–34:35. The parashah is the longest of the weekly Torah portions in the book of Exodus (although not the longest in the Torah), and is made up of 7,424 Hebrew letters, 2,002 Hebrew words, and 139 verses, and can occupy about 245 lines in a Torah scroll (סֵפֶר תּוֹרָה‎, Sefer Torah). (The longest parashah in the Torah is Naso.)[1]

Read on the 21st Sabbath after Simchat Torah, in the Hebrew month of Adar, corresponding to February or March in the secular calendar. Jews also read the first part of the parashah, Exodus 30:11–16, regarding the half-shekel head tax, as the maftir Torah reading on the special Sabbath Shabbat Shekalim (as on March 1, 2014, when Exodus 30:11–16 was read along with parashah Pekudei). Jews also read parts of the parashah addressing the intercession of Moses and God’s mercy, Exodus 32:11–14 and 34:1–10, as the Torah readings on the fast days of the Tenth of Tevet, the Fast of Esther, the Seventeenth of Tammuz, and the Fast of Gedaliah, and for the afternoon (Mincha) prayer service on Tisha B’Av. Jews read another part of the parashah, Exodus 34:1–26, which addresses the Three Pilgrim Festivals (Shalosh Regalim), as the initial Torah reading on the third intermediate day (Chol HaMoed) of Passover. And Jews read a larger selection from the same part of the parashah, Exodus 33:12–34:26, as the initial Torah reading on a Sabbath that falls on one of the intermediate days of Passover or Sukkot.

2nd reading (עליה, aliyah)  Shemot 31:18 – 33:11

Exo 31:18  And when He had ended speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Mosheh two tablets of the Witness, tablets of stone, written with the finger of Elohim.

Exo 32:1  And when the people saw that Mosheh was so long in coming down from the mountain, the people gathered together to Aharon, and said to him, “Arise, make us mighty ones who go before us. For this Mosheh, the man who brought us up out of the land of Mitsrayim, we do not know what has become of him.”

Exo 32:2  And Aharon said to them, “Take off the golden earrings which are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.”

Exo 32:3  “And all the people took off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aharon.

Exo 32:4  And he took this from their hand, and he formed it with an engraving tool, and made a moulded calf. And they said, “This is your mighty one, O Yisra’ěl, that brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim!”

Exo 32:5  And Aharon saw and built a slaughter-place before it. And Aharon called out and said, “Tomorrow is a festival to יהוה.”

Exo 32:6  And they rose early on the next day, and offered ascending offerings, and brought peace offerings. And the people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

Exo 32:7  And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Go, get down! For your people whom you brought out of the land of Mitsrayim have corrupted themselves.

Exo 32:8  “They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a moulded calf, and have bowed themselves to it and slaughtered to it, and said, ‘This is your mighty one, O Yisra’ěl, who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim!’ ”

Exo 32:9  And יהוה said to Mosheh, “I have seen this people, and see, it is a stiff-necked people!

Exo 32:10  “And now, let Me alone, that My wrath might burn against them and I consume them and I make of you a great nation.”

Exo 32:11  But Mosheh pleaded with יהוה his Elohim, and said, “יהוה, why does Your wrath burn against Your people whom You have brought out of the land of Mitsrayim with great power and with a strong hand?

Exo 32:12  “Why should the Mitsrites speak, and say, ‘For evil He brought them out to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth’? Turn from the heat of Your wrath, and relent from this evil to Your people.

Exo 32:13  “Remember Aḇraham, Yitsḥaq, and Yisra’ěl, Your servants, to whom You swore by Yourself, and said to them, ‘I increase your seed like the stars of the heavens. And all this land that I have spoken of I give to your seed, and they shall inherit it forever.’ ”

Exo 32:14  And יהוה relented from the evil which He said He would do to His people.

Exo 32:15  And Mosheh turned and went down from the mountain, and in his hand were the two tablets of the Witness, tablets written on both their sides, written on the one and on the other.

Exo 32:16  And the tablets were the work of Elohim, and the writing was the writing of Elohim engraved on the tablets.

Exo 32:17  And Yehoshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted and he said to Mosheh, “A noise of battle in the camp!”

Exo 32:18  But he said, “It is not the sound of those who shout of might, nor is it the sound of those who cry out in weakness, but the sound of singing that I hear.”

Exo 32:19  And it came to be, as soon as he came near the camp, that he saw the calf and the dancing. And Mosheh’s displeasure burned, and he threw the tablets out of his hands and broke them at the foot of the mountain.

Exo 32:20  And he took the calf which they had made, and burned it in the fire, and ground it into powder, and scattered it on the face of the water and made the children of Yisra’ěl drink it.

Exo 32:21  And Mosheh said to Aharon, “What did this people do to you that you have brought so great a sin upon them?”

Exo 32:22  And Aharon said, “Do not let the displeasure of my master burn. You know the people, that it is in evil.

Exo 32:23  “And they said to me, ‘Make us mighty ones who go before us. For this Mosheh, the man who brought us out of the land of Mitsrayim, we do not know what has become of him.’

Exo 32:24  “And I said to them, ‘Whoever has gold, let them take it off.’ And they gave it to me, and I threw it into the fire, and this calf came out.”

Exo 32:25  And Mosheh saw that the people were let loose, for Aharon had let them loose, to their shame among their enemies.

Exo 32:26  And Mosheh stood in the entrance of the camp, and said, “Who is for יהוה? Come to me.” And all the sons of Lěwi gathered themselves to him.

Exo 32:27  And he said to them, “Thus said יהוה Elohim of Yisra’ěl: ‘Each one put his sword on his side, pass over to and fro from gate to gate in the camp, and each one kill his brother, and each one his friend, and each one his relative.’ ”

Exo 32:28  And the sons of Lěwi did according to the word of Mosheh. And about three thousand men of the people fell that day.

Exo 32:29  And Mosheh said, “You are ordained for יהוה today – since each one has been against his son and his brother – so as to bring upon you a blessing today.”

Exo 32:30  And it came to be on the next day that Mosheh said to the people, “You, you have sinned a great sin. And now I am going up to יהוה – if I might atone for your sin.”

Exo 32:31  And Mosheh returned to יהוה and said, “Oh, these people have sinned a great sin, and have made for themselves a mighty one of gold!

Exo 32:32  “And now, if You would forgive their sin, but if not, please blot me out of Your book which You have written.”

Exo 32:33  And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Whoever has sinned against Me, I blot him out of My book.

Exo 32:34  “And now, go, lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you. See, My Messenger goes before you. And in the day of My visitation I shall visit their sin upon them.”

Exo 32:35  And יהוה plagued the people because they made the calf, which Aharon made.

Exo 33:1  And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Come, go up from here, you and the people whom you have brought out of the land of Mitsrayim, to the land of which I swore to Aḇraham, to Yitsḥaq, and to Ya‛aqoḇ, saying, ‘To your seed I give it.’

Exo 33:2  “And I shall send My Messenger before you, and I shall drive out the Kena‛anite and the Amorite and the Ḥittite and the Perizzite and the Ḥiwwite and the Yeḇusite,

Exo 33:3  to a land flowing with milk and honey. For I do not go up in your midst because you are a stiff-necked people, lest I consume you on the way.”

Exo 33:4  And when the people heard this evil word, they mourned, and no one put on his ornaments.

Exo 33:5  And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Say to the children of Yisra’ěl, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. Should I go up in your midst for one moment I shall consume you. And now, take off your ornaments, and I shall know what to do to you.’ ”

Exo 33:6  So the children of Yisra’ěl took off their ornaments at Mount Ḥorěḇ.

Exo 33:7  And Mosheh took his tent and pitched it outside the camp, far from the camp, and called it the Tent of Appointment. And it came to be that everyone who sought יהוה went out to the Tent of Appointment which was outside the camp.

Exo 33:8  And it came to be, whenever Mosheh went out to the Tent, that all the people rose, and each man stood at his tent door and watched Mosheh until he entered the Tent.

Exo 33:9  And it came to be, when Mosheh entered the Tent, that the column of cloud descended and stood at the door of the Tent, and He spoke with Mosheh.

Exo 33:10  And all the people saw the column of cloud standing at the Tent door, and all the people rose and bowed themselves, each one at the door of his tent.

Exo 33:11  Thus יהוה spoke to Mosheh face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he would return to the camp, but his servant Yehoshua son of Nun, a young man, did not leave the Tent.

3rd reading (עליה, aliyah)  Shemot 33:12 – 33:16

Exo 33:12  And Mosheh said to יהוה, “See, You are saying to me, ‘Bring up this people.’ But You have not made known to me whom You would send with me, though You have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found favour in My eyes.’

Exo 33:13  “And now, please, if I have found favour in Your eyes, please show me Your way, and let me know You, so that I find favour in Your eyes. And consider that this nation is Your people.”

Exo 33:14  And He said, “My Presence does go, and I shall give you rest.”

Exo 33:15  And he said to Him, “If Your Presence is not going, do not lead us up from here.

Exo 33:16  “For how then shall it be known that I have found favour in Your eyes, I and Your people, except You go with us? Then we shall be distinguished, I and Your people, from all the people who are upon the face of the earth.”

Exo 33:19  And He said, “I shall cause all My goodness to pass before you, and I shall proclaim the Name of יהוה before you. And I shall favour him whom I favour, and shall have compassion on him whom I have compassion.”

Exo 33:20  But He said, “You are unable to see My face, for no man does see Me and live.”

Exo 33:21  And יהוה said, “See, there is a place with Me! And you shall stand on the rock.

Exo 33:22  “And it shall be, while My esteem passes by, that I shall put you in the cleft of the rock and cover you with My hand while I pass by.

Prophets: 1 Kings 18:1-39

1Ki 18:1  And after many days it came to be that the word of יהוה came to Ěliyahu, in the third year, saying, “Go, present yourself to Aḥaḇ, and I give rain on the earth.”

1Ki 18:2  Thereupon Ěliyahu went to present himself to Aḥaḇ. And the scarcity of food in Shomeron was severe.a Footnote: aLit. strong.

1Ki 18:3  And Aḥaḇ had called Oḇaḏyahu, who was over his house. Now Oḇaḏyahu feared יהוה exceedingly.

1Ki 18:4  And it came to be, while Izeḇel cut down the prophets of יהוה, that Oḇaḏyahu had taken one hundred prophets and hidden them, fifty to a cave, and had fed them with bread and water.

1Ki 18:5  And Aḥaḇ had said to Oḇaḏyahu, “Go into the land to all the springs of water and to all the wadis, it could be that we find grass to keep the horses and mules alive, and not have any livestock cut off.

1Ki 18:6  And they divided the land between them to pass over it, Aḥaḇ went one way by himself, and Oḇaḏyahu went another way by himself.

1Ki 18:7  And as Oḇaḏyahu was on his way, then see, Ěliyahu met him. And he recognised him, and fell on his face, and said, “Is that you, my master Ěliyahu?”

1Ki 18:8  And he answered him, “It is I. Go, say to your master, ‘Ěliyahu is here.’ ”

1Ki 18:9  And he said, “What have I sinned, that you are giving your servant into the hand of Aḥaḇ, to kill me?

1Ki 18:10  “As יהוה your Elohim lives, there is no nation or reign where my master has not sent to look for you. And when they said, ‘He is not here,’ he made the reign or nation swear that they could not find you.

1Ki 18:11  “And now you say, ‘Go, say to your master, “Ěliyahu is here” ’!

1Ki 18:12  “And it shall be, as soon as I am gone from you, that the Spirit of יהוה takes you away to a place I do not know. And I shall come to report to Aḥaḇ, and when he does not find you, he shall kill me. But I your servant have feared יהוה from my youth.

1Ki 18:13  “Was it not reported to my master what I did when Izeḇel killed the prophets of יהוה, how I hid one hundred men of the prophets of יהוה, fifty to a cave, and fed them with bread and water?

1Ki 18:14  “And now you say, ‘Go, say to your master, “Ěliyahu is here!” ’ Then he shall kill me.”

1Ki 18:15  And Ěliyahu said, “As יהוה of hosts lives, before whom I stand, I shall indeed show myself to him today.”

1Ki 18:16  Oḇaḏyahu then went to meet Aḥaḇ and informed him, and Aḥaḇ went to meet Ěliyahu.

1Ki 18:17  And it came to be, when Aḥaḇ saw Ěliyahu, that Aḥaḇ said to him, “Is that you, O disturber of Yisra’ěl?”

1Ki 18:18  And he answered, “I have not disturbed Yisra’ěl, but you and your father’s house, in that you have forsaken the commands of יהוה, and you have followed the Ba‛als.

1Ki 18:19  “And now, send and gather all Yisra’ěl to me on Mount Karmel, the four hundred and fifty prophets of Ba‛al, and the four hundred prophets of Ashěrah, who eat at Izeḇel’s table.”

1Ki 18:20  Aḥaḇ then sent for all the children of Yisra’ěl, and gathered the prophets on Mount Karmel.

1Ki 18:21  And Ěliyahu came to all the people, and said, “How long would you keep hopping between two opinions? If יהוה is Elohim, follow Him; and if Ba‛al, follow him.” But the people answered him not a word.

1Ki 18:22  And Ěliyahu said to the people, “I alone am left a prophet of יהוה, but the prophets of Ba‛al are four hundred and fifty men.

1Ki 18:23  “Now let them give us two bulls. And let them choose one bull for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on the wood, but set no fire. And I, I prepare the other bull, and shall lay it on the wood, but set no fire.

1Ki 18:24  “And you shall call on the name of your mighty one, and I, I call on the Name of יהוה. And the Elohim who answers by fire, He is Elohim.” So all the people answered and said, “The word is good.”

1Ki 18:25  And Ěliyahu said to the prophets of Ba‛al, “Choose one bull for yourselves and prepare it first, for you are many. And call on the name of your mighty one, but set no fire.”

1Ki 18:26  So they took the bull which was given them, and prepared it, and called on the name of Ba‛al from morning even until noon, saying, “O Ba‛al, answer us!” But there was no voice and no one answered. And they leaped about the slaughter-place which they had made.

1Ki 18:27  And it came to be at noon, that Ěliyahu taunted them and said, “Cry aloud, for he is a mighty one; he is meditating, or he is busy, or he is on a journey, or it could be that he is asleep and has to be awakened!”

1Ki 18:28  And they cried aloud, and cut themselves, according to their ruling, with knives and spears, until the blood gushed out on them.

1Ki 18:29  And it came to be when midday was past, that they prophesied until the time of bringing the evening offering. But there was no voice and no one answered, and no one paying attention.

1Ki 18:30  Then Ěliyahu said to all the people, “Come closer to me.” And all the people came closer to him. And he repaired the slaughter-place of יהוה that was broken down.

1Ki 18:31  And Ěliyahu took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Ya‛aqoḇ, to whom the word of יהוה had come, saying, “Yisra’ěl is your name.”

1Ki 18:32  And with the stones he built a slaughter-place in the Name of יהוה. And he made a trench around the slaughter-place large enough to hold two seahs of seed.

1Ki 18:33  And he arranged the wood, and cut the bull in pieces, and laid it on the wood, and said, “Fill four jars with water, and pour it on the ascending offering and on the wood.”

1Ki 18:34  Then he said, “Do it a second time,” and they did it a second time. And he said, “Do it a third time,” and they did it a third time.

1Ki 18:35  And the water flowed around the slaughter-place, and he filled the trench with water too.

1Ki 18:36  And it came to be, at the time of bringing the evening offering, that Ěliyahu the prophet came near and said, “יהוה Elohim of Aḇraham, Yitsḥaq, and Yisra’ěl, let it be known today: You are Elohim in Yisra’ěl, and I Your servant, have done all these matters by Your word.

1Ki 18:37  “Answer me, O יהוה, answer me, and let this people know that You are יהוה Elohim, and You shall turn their hearts back to You again.”

1Ki 18:38  Then the fire of יהוה fell and consumed the ascending offering, and the wood and the stones and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench.

1Ki 18:39  And all the people saw, and fell on their faces, and said, “יהוה, He is the Elohim! יהוה, He is the Elohim!”

Ezekiel 36:16-38

Eze 36:16  And the word of יהוה came to me, saying,

Eze 36:17  “Son of man, when the house of Yisra’ěl dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their own ways and deeds. To Me their way was like the uncleanness of a woman in her monthly period.

Eze 36:18  “So I poured out My wrath on them for the blood they had shed on the land, and for their idols they defiled it.

Eze 36:19  “And I scattered them among the nations, and they were dispersed throughout the lands. I have judged them according to their ways and their deeds.

Eze 36:20  “And when they came to the nations, wherever they went, they profaned My set-apart Name for it was said of them, ‘These are the people of יהוה, and yet they have gone out of His land.’

Eze 36:21  “But I had compassion on My set-apart Name, which the house of Yisra’ěl had profaned among the nations wherever they went.

Eze 36:22  “Therefore say to the house of Yisra’ěl, ‘Thus said the Master יהוה, “I do not do this for your sake, O house of Yisra’ěl, but for My set-apart Name’s sake, which you have profaned among the nations wherever you went.

Eze 36:23  “And I shall set apart My great Name, which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned in their midst. And the nations shall know that I am יהוה,” declares the Master יהוה, “when I am set-apart in you before their eyes.

Eze 36:24  “And I shall take you from among the nations, and I shall gather you out of all lands, and I shall bring you into your own land.

Eze 36:25  “And I shall sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean – from all your filthiness and from all your idols I cleanse you.

Eze 36:26  “And I shall give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you. And I shall take the heart of stone out of your flesh, and I shall give you a heart of flesh,

Eze 36:27  and put My Spirit within you.a And I shall cause you to walk in My laws and guard My right-rulings and shall do them. Footnote: aSee Eze_11:19-20, Eze_37:6-14, Eze_39:29.

Eze 36:28  “And you shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers. And you shall be My people, and I shall be your Elohim.

Eze 36:29  “And I shall save you from all your uncleannesses. And I shall call for the grain and increase it, and I shall bring no scarcity of food upon you.

Eze 36:30  “And I shall increase the fruit of your trees and the increase of your fields, so that you need never again bear the reproach of scarcity of food among the nations.

Eze 36:31  “And you shall remember your evil ways and your deeds that were not good. And you shall loathe yourselves in your own eyes, for your crookednesses and your abominations.

Eze 36:32  “Not for your sake am I acting,” declares the Master יהוה, “let it be known to you. Be ashamed and blush for your ways, O house of Yisra’ěl!”

Eze 36:33  Thus said the Master יהוה, “On the day that I cleanse you from all your crookednesses, I shall cause the cities to be inhabited, and the ruined places shall be rebuilt,

Eze 36:34  and the land that was laid waste tilled instead of being a ruin before the eyes of all who pass by.

Eze 36:35  “And they shall say, ‘This land that was laid waste has become like the garden of Ěḏen. And the wasted, the deserted, and the destroyed cities are now walled and inhabited.’

Eze 36:36  “Then the nations which are left all around you shall know that I, יהוה, have rebuilt the destroyed places and planted what was laid waste. I, יהוה, have spoken it, and I shall do it.”

Eze 36:37  Thus said the Master יהוה, “Once again I shall let the house of Yisra’ěl inquire of Me to do for them: I shall increase their men like a flock.

Eze 36:38  “As a set-apart flock, as the flock at Yerushalayim at her appointed times, so shall the wasted cities be filled with flocks of men. And they shall know that I am יהוה.” ’ ”

Brit Hadasha: Matthew 9:35 – 11:1

Mat 9:35  And יהושע went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their congregations, and proclaiming the Good News of the reign, and healing every disease and every bodily weakness among the people.

Mat 9:36  And having seen the crowds, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, as sheep having no shepherd.

Mat 9:37  Then He said to His taught ones, “The harvest truly is great, but the workers are few.

Mat 9:38  “Pray then that the Master of the harvest would send out workers to His harvest.”

Mat 10:1  And having called His twelve taught ones near, He gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every bodily weakness.

Mat 10:2  And these are the names of the twelve emissaries: first, Shim‛on, who is called Kěpha, and Andri his brother; Ya‛aqoḇ the son of Zaḇdai, and Yoḥanan his brother;

Mat 10:3  Philip and Bartholomi; T’oma and Mattithyahu the tax collector; Ya‛aqoḇ the son of Alphai, and Laḇai whose last name was Taddai;

Mat 10:4  Shim‛on the Kena‛anite, and Yehuḏah from Qerioth, who did also deliver Him up.

Mat 10:5  יהושע sent these twelve out, having commanded them, saying, “Do not go into the way of the nations, and do not enter a city of the Shomeronim,

Mat 10:6  but rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Yisra’ěl.

Mat 10:7  “And as you go, proclaim, saying, ‘The reign of the heavens has drawn near.’

Mat 10:8  “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. You have received without paying, give without being paid.

Mat 10:9  “Do not acquire gold or silver or copper for your money-belts,

Mat 10:10  or a bag for the journey, or two undergarments, or sandals, or staffs, for the worker is worthy of his food.

Mat 10:11  “And into whatever city or village you enter, ask who is worthy in it, and stay there until you leave.

Mat 10:12  “And as you enter into a house, greet it.

Mat 10:13  “And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it. But if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.

Mat 10:14  “And whoever does not receive you nor hear your words, when you leave that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet.

Mat 10:15  “Truly, I say to you, it shall be more bearable for the land of Seḏom and Amorah in the day of judgment than for that city!

Mat 10:16  “See, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wisea as serpents and innocent as doves. Footnote: aOr cautious, crafty, shrewd.

Mat 10:17  “But beware of men, for they shall deliver you up to sanhedrins and flog you in their congregations.

Mat 10:18  “And you shall be brought before governors and sovereigns for My sake, as a witness to them and to the nations.

Mat 10:19  “But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it shall be given to you in that hour what you shall speak,

Mat 10:20  for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking in you.

Mat 10:21  “And brother shall deliver up brother to death, and a father his child. And children shall rise up against parents Mic_7:6 and shall put them to death.

Mat 10:22  “And you shall be hated by all for My Name’s sake. But he who shall have endured to the end shall be saved.b Footnote: bSee Mat_24:13.

Mat 10:23  “And when they persecute you in this city, flee to another. For truly, I say to you, you shall by no means have gone through the cities of Yisra’ěl before the Son of Aḏam comes.

Mat 10:24  “A taught one is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.

Mat 10:25  “It is enough for the taught one to become like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Be‛elzebul, how much more those of his household!

Mat 10:26  “Therefore do not fear them. For whatever is covered shall be revealed, and whatever is hidden shall be made known.

Mat 10:27  “What I say to you in the dark, speak in the light. And what you hear in the ear, proclaim on the house-tops.

Mat 10:28  “And do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the being. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both being and body in GěHinnom.

Mat 10:29  “Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground without your Father.

Mat 10:30  “And even the hairs of your head are all numbered.

Mat 10:31  “So do not fear, you are worth more than many sparrows.

Mat 10:32  “Everyone, therefore, who shall confess Me before men, him I shall also confess before My Father who is in the heavens.

Mat 10:33  “But whoever shall deny Me before men, him I shall also deny before My Father who is in the heavens.

Mat 10:34  “Do not think that I have come to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword,c Footnote: cIn Luk_12:51 the word “division” is used, while “sword” has the same meaning here.

Mat 10:35  for I have come to bring division, a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law –

Mat 10:36  and a man’s enemies are those of his own household.d Mic_7:6. Footnote: dLuk_12:53, Mic_7:6.

Mat 10:37  “He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me, and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.e Footnote: eSee Luk_16:16-17 which explains it more clearly.

Mat 10:38  “And he who does not take up his stake and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.

Mat 10:39  “He who has found his life shall lose it, and he that has lost his life for My sake shall find it.

Mat 10:40  “He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.

Mat 10:41  “He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward. And he who receives a righteous one in the name of a righteous one shall receive a righteous one’s reward.

Mat 10:42  “And whoever gives one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a taught one, truly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward.”

Mat 11:1  And it came to be, when יהושע ended instructing His twelve taught ones, that He set out from there to teach and to proclaim in their cities.

Luke 11:14-20

Luk 11:14  And He was casting out a demon, and it was dumb. And it came to be, when the demon had gone out, that the dumb spoke. And the crowds marvelled.

Luk 11:15  But some of them said, “He casts out demons by Be‛elzebul, the ruler of the demons,”

Luk 11:16  and others, trying Him, were seeking from Him a sign from heaven.

Luk 11:17  And He, knowing their thoughts, said to them, “Every reign divided against itself is laid waste, and a house divided against a house falls.

Luk 11:18  “So if Satan also is divided against himself, how shall his reign stand? Because you say I cast out demons by Be‛elzebul.

Luk 11:19  “Now if I cast out demons by Be‛elzebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? Because of this they shall be your judges.

Luk 11:20  “But if I cast out demons by the finger of Elohim,a then the reign of Elohim has come upon you. Footnote: aSee Exo_31:18.

Acts 7:35 – 8:1

Act 7:35  “This Mosheh whom they had refused, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge?’ Exo_2:14 – this one Elohim sent to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the Messenger who appeared to him in the bush.

Act 7:36  “This one led them out, after he had done wonders and signs in the land of Mitsrayim, and in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness forty years.

Act 7:38  “This is he who was in the assembly in the wilderness with the Messenger who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers, who received the living Words to give to us,

Act 7:39  unto whom our fathers would not become obedient, but thrust away, and in their hearts they turned back to Mitsrayim,

Act 7:40  saying to Aharon, ‘Make us mighty ones to go before us, for this Mosheh who led us out of the land of Mitsrayim, we do not know what has become of him.’ Exo_32:1, Exo_32:23.

Act 7:41  “And they made a calf in those days, and brought an offering to the idol, and were rejoicing in the works of their own hands.

Act 7:42  “So Elohim turned and gave them up to worship the host of the heaven,b as it has been written in the book of the Prophets, ‘Did you bring slaughtered beasts and offerings unto Me during forty years in the wilderness, O house of Yisra’ěl? Footnote: b Deu_4:19, Deu_17:3, 2Ki_23:5.

Act 7:45  which our fathers, having received it in turn, also brought with Yehoshua into the land possessed by the nations, whom Elohim drove out before the face of our fathers until the days of Dawiḏ,

Act 7:46  who found favour before Elohim and asked to find a dwelling for the Elohim of Ya‛aqoḇ,

Act 7:47  but Shelomoh built Him a house.

Act 7:48  “However, the Most High does not dwell in dwellings made with hands,c as the prophet says: Footnote: cSee also Act_17:24.

Act 7:49  ‘The heaven is My throne, and earth is My footstool. What house shall you build for Me? says יהוה, or what is the place of My rest?

Act 7:50  ‘Has My hand not made all these?’ Isa_66:1-2.

Act 7:51  “You stiff-necked Exo_32:9, Exo_33:3, Exo_33:5 and uncircumcised in heart and ears! Lev_26:41, Jer_6:10 You always resist the Set-apart Spirit, as your fathers did, you also do.

Act 7:52  “Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who before announced the coming of the Righteous One, of whom you now have become the betrayers and murderers,

Act 7:53  who received the Torah as it was ordained by messengers, but did not watch overd it.” Footnote: dSee Mat_5:20.

Act 7:54  And hearing this they were cut to the hearts and gnashed the teeth at him.

Act 7:55  But he, being filled with the Set-apart Spirit, looked steadily into the heaven and saw the esteem of Elohim, and יהושע standing at the right hand of Elohim,

Act 7:56  and he said, “Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Aḏam standing at the right hand of Elohim!” Psa_110:1.

Act 7:59  And they were stoning Stephanos as he was calling and saying, “Master יהושע, receive my spirit.”

Act 7:60  And kneeling down he cried out with a loud voice, “Master, do not hold this sin against them.” And having said this, he fell asleep.

Act 8:1  And Sha’ul was giving approval to his death. And on that day there was a great persecution against the assembly which was at Yerushalayim, and they were all scattered throughout the countries of Yehuḏah and Shomeron, except the emissaries.

1 Corinthians 10:1-15

1Co 10:1  For I do not wish you to be ignorant, brothers, that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea,

1Co 10:2  and all were immersed into Mosheh in the cloud and in the sea,

1Co 10:3  and all ate the same spiritual food,

1Co 10:4  and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed, and the Rock was Messiah.

1Co 10:5  However, with most of them Elohim was not well pleased, for they were laid low in the wilderness.

1Co 10:6  And these became examples for us, so that we should not lust after evil, as those indeed lusted.

1Co 10:7  And do not become idolaters as some of them, as it has been written, “The people sat down to eat and to drink, and stood up to play.” Exo_32:6.

1Co 10:8  Neither should we commit whoring, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell,

1Co 10:9  neither let us try Messiah, as some of them also tried, and were destroyed by serpents,

1Co 10:10  neither grumble, as some of them also grumbled, and were destroyed by the destroyer.

1Co 10:11  And all these came upon them as examples, and they were written as a warning to us, on whom the ends of the ages have come,

1Co 10:12  so that he who thinks he stands, let him take heed lest he fall.

1Co 10:13  No trial has overtaken you except such as is common to man, and Elohim is trustworthy, who shall not allow you to be tried beyond what you are able, but with the trial shall also make the way of escape, enabling you to bear it.

1Co 10:14  Therefore, my beloved ones, flee from idolatry.

1Co 10:15  I speak as to wise men, judge for yourselves what I say.

2 Corinthians 3:1-18

2Co 3:1  Are we to begin to recommend ourselves again? Or do we need, as some, letters of recommendation to you, or from you?

2Co 3:2  You are our letter, having been written in our hearts, known and read by all men,

2Co 3:3  making it obvious that you are a letter of Messiah, served by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living Elohim, not on tablets of stone but on fleshly tablets of the heart.

2Co 3:4  And such trust we have toward Elohim, through the Messiah.

2Co 3:5  Not that we are competent in ourselves to reckon any matter as from ourselves, but our competence is from Elohim,

2Co 3:6  who also made us competent as servants of a renewed covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit, for the letter kills but the Spirit gives life.

2Co 3:7  But if the administering of death in letters, engraved on stones, was esteemed, so that the children of Yisra’ěl were unable to look steadily at the face of Mosheh because of the esteem of his face, which was passing away,

2Co 3:8  how much more esteemed shall the administering of the Spirit not be?

2Co 3:9  For if the administering of condemnation had esteem, the administering of righteousness exceeds much more in esteem.

2Co 3:10  For indeed what was made esteemed had no esteem in this respect, in view of the esteem that excels.

2Co 3:11  For if that which is passing away was esteemed, much more that which remains in esteem.

2Co 3:12  Having then such expectation, we use much boldness of speech,

2Co 3:13  and not like Mosheh, who put a veil over his facea so that the children of Yisra’ěl should not look steadily at the end of what was passing away. Footnote: aSee Exo_34:33-35.

2Co 3:14  But their minds were hardened, for to this day, when the old covenant is being read, that same veil remains, not lifted, because in Messiah it is taken away.

2Co 3:15  But to this day, when Mosheh is being read, a veil lies on their heart.

2Co 3:16  And when one turns to the Master, the veil is taken away. Exo_34:34.

2Co 3:17  Now יהוה is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of יהוה is, there is freedom.

2Co 3:18  And we all, as with unveiled face we see as in a mirror the esteem of יהוה, are being transformed into the same likeness from esteem to esteem, as from יהוה, the Spirit.b Footnote: bSee also 2Co_3:17-18.

Aharonic Blessing

Num 6:22  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Num 6:23  “Speak to Aharon and his sons, saying, ‘This is how you bless the children of Yisra’ĕl. Say to them:

Num 6:24  “יהוה bless you and guard you;

Num 6:25  יהוה make His face shine upon you, and show favour to you;

Num 6:26  יהוה lift up His face upon you, and give you peace.” ’

Num 6:27  “Thus they shall put My Name on the children of Yisra’ĕl, and I Myself shall bless them.”

Tetzave | תצוה | “You Shall Command”

Deu 6:4  “Hear, O Yisra’ĕl: יהוה our Elohim, יהוה is one!

Tetzaveh, Tetsaveh, T’tzaveh, or T’tzavveh (תְּצַוֶּה‎ — Hebrew for “you command,” the second word and first distinctive word in the parashah) is the 20th weekly Torah portion (פָּרָשָׁה‎, parashah) in the annual cycle of Torah reading and the eighth in the Book of Exodus. The parashah reports the commands of יהוה to bring olive oil for the lamp, make sacred garments for the priests, conduct an ordination ceremony, and make an incense altar.

It constitutes Exodus 27:20–30:10. The parashah is made up of 5,430 Hebrew letters, 1,412 Hebrew words, and 101 verses, and can occupy about 179 lines in a Torah Scroll (סֵפֶר תּוֹרָה‎, Sefer Torah). Read the 20th Sabbath after Simchat Torah, in February or March.

Torah: Exodus 27:20 – 30:10

1st reading (עליה, aliyah)  Shemot 27:20 – 28:12

Exo 27:20  “And you, you are to command the children of Yisra’ěl to bring you clear oil of pressed olives for the light, to cause the lamp to burn continually.

Exo 27:21  “In the Tent of Appointment, outside the veil which is before the Witness, Aharon and his sons are to tend it from evening until morning before יהוה – a law forever to their generations, from the children of Yisra’ěl.

Exo 28:1  “And you, bring near Aharon your brother and his sons with him, from among the children of Yisra’ěl, for serving as priest to Me: Aharon, Naḏaḇ and Aḇihu, El‛azar and Ithamar, the sons of Aharon.

Exo 28:2  “And you shall make set-apart garments for Aharon your brother, for esteem and for comeliness.

Exo 28:3  “And you, speak to all the wise of heart, whom I have filled with a spirit of wisdom, and they shall make the garments of Aharon, to set him apart, for him to serve as priest to Me.

Exo 28:4  “And these are the garments which they make: a breastplate, a shoulder garment, a robe, an embroidered long shirt, a turban, and a girdle. And they shall make set-apart garments for Aharon your brother and his sons, for him to serve as priest to Me.

Exo 28:5  “And they shall take the gold, and the blue and the purple and the scarlet material, and the fine linen,

Exo 28:6  and shall make the shoulder garment of gold, of blue and purple and scarlet material, and fine woven linen, the work of a skilled workman.

Exo 28:7  “It is to have two shoulder pieces joined at its two edges, and so it is joined together.

Exo 28:8  “And the embroidered band of the shoulder garment, which is on it, is of the same workmanship, made of gold, of blue and purple and scarlet material, and fine woven linen.

Exo 28:9  “And you shall take two shoham stones and engrave on them the names of the sons of Yisra’ěl,

Exo 28:10  six of their names on one stone, and the remaining six names on the other stone, according to their birth.

Exo 28:11  “With the work of an engraver in stone, like the engravings of a signet, engrave the two stones with the names of the sons of Yisra’ěl. Set them in settings of gold.

Exo 28:12  “And you shall put the two stones on the shoulder pieces of the shoulder garment as stones of remembrance for the sons of Yisra’ěl. And Aharon shall bear their names before יהוה on his two shoulders, for a remembrance.

Exo 30:10  “And Aharon shall make atonement upon its horns once a year with the blood of the sin offering of atonement – once a year he makes atonement upon it throughout your generations. It is most set-apart to יהוה.”

Prophets: Ezekiel 43:10-27

Eze 43:10  “Son of man, explain the House to the house of Yisra’ěl, and when they are ashamed of their crookednesses, they shall measure the measurements.

Eze 43:11  “And since they shall be ashamed of all that they did, make known to them the design of the House and its structure, and its exits and its entrances, its entire design and all its laws, and all its forms and all its Torot. And write it down before their eyes, so that they observe its entire design and all its laws, and shall do them.

Eze 43:12  “This is the Torah of the House: Upon the mountaintop, all the boundary of it, all around, is most set-apart. See, this is the Torah of the House.

Eze 43:13  “And these are the measurements of the slaughter-place in cubits, that cubit being one cubit and a handbreadth, and the base one cubit high and one cubit wide, with a rim all around its edge of one span. And this is the upper part of the slaughter-place.

Eze 43:14  “And from the base on the ground to the lower ledge, two cubits, and the width of the ledge one cubit, and from the smaller ledge to the larger ledge four cubits, and the width of the ledge one cubit.

Eze 43:15  “And the slaughter-place hearth is four cubits high, and four horns extending upward from the hearth.

Eze 43:16  “And the slaughter-place hearth is twelve cubits long, and twelve wide, square at its four corners.

Eze 43:17  “And the ledge is fourteen long and fourteen wide on its four sides, with a rim of half a cubit around it, and its base one cubit all around, and its steps face east.”

Eze 43:18  And He said to me, “Son of man, thus said the Master יהוה, ‘These are the laws for the slaughter-place on the day when it is made, for offering ascending offerings on it, and for sprinkling blood on it.

Eze 43:19  And you shall give a young bull for a sin offering to the priests, the Lěwites, who are of the seed of Tsaḏoq, who approach unto Me,’ declares the Master יהוה.

Eze 43:20  And you shall take some of its blood and put it on the four horns of the slaughter-place, on the four corners of the ledge, and on the rim around it, and shall cleanse it and make atonement for it.

Eze 43:21  And you shall take the bull of the sin offering, and shall burn it in the appointed place of the House, outside the set-apart place.

Eze 43:22  And on the second day you bring a male goat, a perfect one, for a sin offering. And they shall cleanse the slaughter-place, as they cleansed it with the bull.

Eze 43:23  When you have ended cleansing it, bring a young bull, a perfect one, and a ram from the flock, a perfect one.

Eze 43:24  And you shall bring them before יהוה, and the priests shall throw salt on them and offer them up as an ascending offering to יהוה.

Eze 43:25  Prepare a goat for a sin offering daily for seven days, and prepare a young bull and a ram from the flock, perfect ones.

Eze 43:26  For seven days they shall make atonement for the slaughter-place and cleanse it, and ordain it.

Eze 43:27  And when these days are completed it shall be, on the eighth day and thereafter, that the priests make your ascending offerings and your peace offerings on the slaughter-place, and I shall accept you,’ declares the Master יהוה.”

1 Samuel 15:2-34

1Sa 15:1  And Shemu’ěl said to Sha’ul, “יהוה sent me to anoint you sovereign over His people, over Yisra’ěl. And now, listen to the voice of the words of יהוה.

1Sa 15:2  “Thus said יהוה of hosts, ‘I shall punish Amalěq for what he did to Yisra’ěl, how he set himself against him on the way when he came up from Mitsrayim.

1Sa 15:3  Now go, and you shall strike Amalěq and put under the ban all that he has, and you shall not spare them, and put to death from man to woman, from infant to nursing child, from ox to sheep, from camel to donkey.’ ”

1Sa 15:4  Then Sha’ul summoned the people and mustered them in Tela’im, two hundred thousand foot soldiers and ten thousand men of Yehuḏah.

1Sa 15:5  And Sha’ul came to a city of Amalěq, and lay in wait in the wadi.

1Sa 15:6  And Sha’ul said to the Qěynites, “Go, turn aside, come down from among the Amalěqites, lest I destroy you with them. For you did show loving-commitment to all the children of Yisra’ěl when they came up out of Mitsrayim.” So the Qěynites turned aside from the midst of the Amalěqites.

1Sa 15:7  And Sha’ul struck the Amalěqites, from Ḥawilah all the way to Shur, which is before Mitsrayim.

1Sa 15:8  And he caught Aḡaḡ sovereign of the Amalěqites alive, and put under the ban all the people with the edge of the sword.

1Sa 15:9  But Sha’ul and the people spared Aḡaḡ and the best of the sheep, and the cattle, and the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not put them under the ban. But all goods despised and worthless, that they put under the ban.

1Sa 15:10  And the word of יהוה came to Shemu’ěl, saying,

1Sa 15:11  “I am grieved that I have set up Sha’ul as sovereign, for he has turned back from following Me, and has not performed My words.” And it displeased Shemu’ěl, and he cried to יהוה all night.

1Sa 15:12  And Shemu’ěl rose early in the morning to meet Sha’ul, and it was told to Shemu’ěl, saying, “Sha’ul went to Karmel, and see, he set up a monument for himself, then turned and passed over, and went down to Gilgal.”

1Sa 15:13  And Shemu’ěl came to Sha’ul, and Sha’ul said to him, “Blessed are you of יהוה! I have performed the word of יהוה.”

1Sa 15:14  But Shemu’ěl said, “What then is this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the cattle which I hear?”

1Sa 15:15  And Sha’ul said, “They have brought them from Amalěq, because the people spared the best of the sheep and the cattle, to slaughter to יהוה your Elohim. And the rest we have put under the ban.”

1Sa 15:16  And Shemu’ěl said to Sha’ul, “Wait, and let me declare to you what יהוה said to me last night.” And he said to him, “Speak.”

1Sa 15:17  And Shemu’ěl said, “Though you were little in your own eyes, were you not head of the tribes of Yisra’ěl? And did not יהוה anoint you sovereign over Yisra’ěl?

1Sa 15:18  “And יהוה sent you on the way, and said, ‘Go, and you shall put under the ban the sinners, the Amalěqites, and fight against them until they are consumed.’

1Sa 15:19  “And why did you not obey the voice of יהוה, but swooped down on the spoil, and did evil in the eyes of יהוה?”

1Sa 15:20  And Sha’ul said to Shemu’ěl, “I did obey the voice of יהוה, and I went on the way on which יהוה sent me, and brought back Aḡaḡ sovereign of Amalěq, and I put Amalěq under the ban.

1Sa 15:21  “But the people took of the spoil, of the sheep and cattle, the best of that which should have been put under the ban, to slaughter to יהוה your Elohim in Gilgal.”

1Sa 15:22  Then Shemu’ěl said, “Does יהוה delight in ascending offerings and slaughterings, as in obeying the voice of יהוה? Look, to obey is better than a slaughtering, to heed is better than the fat of rams.

1Sa 15:23  “For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and stubbornness is as wickedness and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of יהוה, He also does reject you as sovereign.”

1Sa 15:24  And Sha’ul said to Shemu’ěl, “I have sinned, for I have transgressed the mouth of יהוה and your words, because I feared the people and listened to their voice.

1Sa 15:25  “And now, please pardon my sin, and return with me, and let me bow myself to יהוה.”

1Sa 15:26  But Shemu’ěl said to Sha’ul, “I do not return with you, for you have rejected the word of יהוה, and יהוה does reject you from being sovereign over Yisra’ěl.”

1Sa 15:27  And as Shemu’ěl turned around to go away, Sha’ul took hold of the edge of his robe, and it tore.

1Sa 15:28  And Shemu’ěl said to him, “יהוה has torn the reign of Yisra’ěl from you today, and has given it to a neighbour of yours, better than you.

1Sa 15:29  “Moreover, the Eminence of Yisra’ěl does not lie nor relent. For He is not a man, that He should relent.”

1Sa 15:30  Then he said, “I have sinned. But esteem me now, please, before the elders of my people and before Yisra’ěl, and return with me, and I shall bow myself to יהוה your Elohim.”

1Sa 15:31  And Shemu’ěl turned back after Sha’ul, and Sha’ul bowed himself to יהוה.

1Sa 15:32  And Shemu’ěl said, “Bring Aḡaḡ sovereign of the Amalěqites here to me.” So Aḡaḡ came to him delightedly, and Aḡaḡ said, “Truly, the bitterness of death has turned aside.”

1Sa 15:33  And Shemu’ěl said, “As your sword bereaved women, let your mother be bereaved among women too.” Shemu’ěl then hewed Aḡaḡ to pieces before יהוה in Gilgal.

1Sa 15:34  And Shemu’ěl went to Ramah, while Sha’ul went up to his house at Giḇ‛ah of Sha’ul.

1Sa 15:35  And Shemu’ěl did not see Sha’ul again until the day of his death, for Shemu’ěl mourned for Sha’ul. And יהוה was grieved that He had made Sha’ul to reign over Yisra’ěl.

Brit Hadasha: Mark 4:35 – 5:43

Mar 4:35  And on the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us pass over to the other side.”

Mar 4:36  And having left the crowd, they took Him along in the boat, as He was. And other little boats were also with Him.

Mar 4:37  And there came a great windstorm, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already being filled.

Mar 4:38  And He was in the stern, asleep on a cushion. And they woke Him up and said to Him, “Teacher, is it no concern to You that we perish?”

Mar 4:39  And having been awakened He rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.

Mar 4:40  And He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you not yet belief?”

Mar 4:41  And they feared exceedingly, and asked each other, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”

Mar 5:1  And they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gaḏarenes.

Mar 5:2  And when He came out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

Mar 5:3  who had his dwelling among the tombs. And no one was able to bind him, not even with chains,

Mar 5:4  because he had often been bound with shackles and chains but the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces, and no one was able to tame him.

Mar 5:5  And continually, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones.

Mar 5:6  And seeing יהושע from a distance, he ran and bowed down to Him,

Mar 5:7  and having called out with a loud voice, said, “What have I to do with You, יהושע, Son of the Most High Ěl? Swear to Elohim not to torture me.”

Mar 5:8  For He had said to him, “Come out of the man, unclean spirit!”

Mar 5:9  And He was asking him, “What is your name?” And he answered, saying, “My name is Legion, because we are many.”

Mar 5:10  And he begged Him very much that He would not send them out of the country.

Mar 5:11  Now a great herd of pigs was there, feeding near the mountains.

Mar 5:12  And all the demons begged Him, saying, “Send us to the pigs, so that we enter into them.”

Mar 5:13  And He gave them permission. And the unclean spirits came out and entered into the pigs – they were about two thousand – and the herd rushed down the steep place into the sea, and drowned in the sea.

Mar 5:14  And those who fed the pigs fled, and reported it in the city and in the country. And they went out to see what had taken place.

Mar 5:15  So they came to יהושע, and saw the demon-possessed one, him who had the legion, sitting, and dressed, and in his right mind. And they were afraid.

Mar 5:16  And those who saw it related to them what was done to the demon-possessed one, and about the pigs.

Mar 5:17  And they began to plead with Him to leave their borders.

Mar 5:18  And as He was entering into the boat, he who had been demon-possessed begged Him that he might be with Him.

Mar 5:19  And יהושע did not allow him, but said to him, “Go home to your friends, and report to them what the Master has done for you, and how He had compassion on you.”

Mar 5:20  And he left and began to proclaim in Dekapolis all that יהושע had done for him, and all marvelled.

Mar 5:21  And when יהושע had passed over again by boat to the other side, a large crowd assembled to Him, and He was by the sea.

Mar 5:22  And see, one of the rulers of the congregation came, Ya’ir by name. And when he saw Him, he fell at His feet,

Mar 5:23  and begged Him strongly, saying, “My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come, lay Your hands on her to heal her, and she shall live.”

Mar 5:24  And He went with him. And a large crowd was following Him, and they were thronging Him.

Mar 5:25  And a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years,

Mar 5:26  and had suffered much from many physicians, and spent all that she had and was no better, but rather became worse.

Mar 5:27  Having heard about יהושע, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment,

Mar 5:28  for she said, “If I only touch His garments, I shall be made well.”

Mar 5:29  And immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction.

Mar 5:30  And immediately יהושע, knowing in Himself that power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My garments?”

Mar 5:31  And His taught ones said to Him, “You see the crowd is thronging You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ ”

Mar 5:32  And He was looking around to see her who did this.

Mar 5:33  And the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what was done to her, came and fell down before Him and spoke to Him all the truth.

Mar 5:34  And He said to her, “Daughter, your belief has healed you. Go in peace, and be relieved from your affliction.”

Mar 5:35  As He was speaking, they came from the ruler of the congregation’s house, saying to him, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?”

Mar 5:36  But having heard the word that was spoken, יהושע said to the ruler of the congregation, “Do not be afraid – only believe.”

Mar 5:37  And He allowed no one to follow Him except Kěpha, and Ya‛aqoḇ, and Yoḥanan the brother of Ya‛aqoḇ.

Mar 5:38  So they came to the house of the ruler of the congregation, and saw a commotion, and much weeping and lamenting.

Mar 5:39  And coming in He said to them, “Why make this commotion and weep? The child has not died, but is sleeping.”

Mar 5:40  And they were laughing at Him. And when He had put them all out, He took the father and the mother of the child, and those who were with Him, and went in where the child was lying.

Mar 5:41  And taking the child by the hand He said to her, “Talitha, qumi,” which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.”

Mar 5:42  And immediately the girl rose up and was walking, for she was twelve years old. And they were completely astonished.

Mar 5:43  But He ordered them many times that no one should know it, and said that she should be given food to eat.

Philippians 4:10-20

Php 4:10  And I rejoiced in יהוה greatly that now at last your concern for me has revived again – though you were concerned, but had no chance.

Php 4:11  Not that I speak concerning need, for I have learned to be content in whatever state I am.

Php 4:12  I know what it is to be humbled, and I know what it is to have in excess. In any and every situation I have learned both to be filled, and to be hungry, both to have in excess, and to be in need.

Php 4:13  I have strength to do all, through Messiaha who empowers me. Footnote: a Joh_15:5, 2Co_3:5-6, 2Co_12:9, Eph_3:20, Php_2:13, Heb_13:20-21, 1Jn_4:4.

Php 4:14  Yet you did well in sharing in my pressure.

Php 4:15  And you know too, Philippians, that in the beginning of the Good News, when I went out from Makedonia, no assembly shared with me concerning giving and receiving, except you only,

Php 4:16  because, even in Thessalonike you sent to my need, once and twice.

Php 4:17  Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that is multiplying to your account.

Php 4:18  Indeed I have all and more than enough. I have been filled, having received from Epaphroditos what you sent, a sweet-smelling fragrance,b Exo_29:18 an acceptable offering, well-pleasing to Elohim. Footnote: b 2Co_2:14-15, Eph_5:2.

Php 4:19  And my Elohim shall fill all your need according to His riches in esteem by Messiah יהושע.

Php 4:20  And to our Elohim and Father be esteem forever and ever. Aměn.

Aharonic Blessing

Num 6:26  יהוה lift up His face upon you, and give you peace.” ’
